Cobb-Badnarik Request for Ohio Recount Wins a Round in Court

Today, U.S. District Court Judge Edmund Sargus, of Columbus, Ohio, temporarily let the Ohio presidential election recount go forward. That recount had been requested by David Cobb and Michael Badnarik. State ex rel Delaware Co. Bd. of Elections v National Voting Rights Institute, David Cobb & Michael Badnarik, no. C2-04-1139.

Last week, a state court judge in Delaware County had issued an injunction against the recount, but attorneys for Cobb and Badnarik removed that case to federal court. The federal court will hold a further hearing, but in the meantime the recount may proceed.

  1. The comment I post here is not a comment on the request for a recount by the Green and Libertarian Parties but is instead an idea that I would like to convey regaurding the CDP’s control and maniulation of the presidential debates. Because the major parties try every legal and illegal dirty trick in the book to exclude 3rd party and independent candidates from the book, over half of all elligible voters never learn that there are other voices and choices out there. This should be of the gravest concern for all Amerians. The peoples’ thoughts are being minipulated by the wrongdoings of the leadership of the major parties. I respect what Micheal Badnarik and David Cobb did to protest their exclusion from the debate. 20 years ago, the presidential debates were hosted by a nonpartisan organization and their overseeing of the debates produced more room for fairness in the events. In this day and age, the two party system use the debates solely to protect their own interests. AND THEY CALL THIS A DEMOCRACY! There were at least 5-10 other candidates on the ballot in enough states to be included in the presidential debates. The CDP tries to argue that they can’t let all 200+ candidates come on stage that do run for president every four years. They could at least allow the top five out of all those 200+ candidates attend the debates. The two party system uses the debates to prevent issues often neglected from being brought up. What the 2 major parties do is sick! There is a solution though to the problem of exclusion of third party choices from debates. All independents and third party’s ho intend to take part in the presidential elections could and should get together and produced their own televised debates. The number of veiwers who actually watch the presidential debates is at an all time low. This is also a huge factor in the low voter turnout that is characteristic of today’s presidential elections. The low number veiwers of the presidential debates has created a large vacuum of untapped followers on the civil level. The third party candidates could host their own televised debates at around the exact same time as the major parties host theirs and third party debates would steal the spotlight of the major party debates because everybody knows that the major party debates are mostly staged. This would result in a higher turnout for indepedent and third party candidates. And when the third party debates are hosted, they could be hosted omn a popular channel so that all would see them.
