Green, Constitution Parties Submit Signatures in Illinois

June 26 is the petition deadline for minor party candidate petitions in Illinois. Two parties filed: Green and Constitution. The state law requires 25,000 signatures for statewide nominees, but state law also says that all petitions are deemed acceptable, whether they have the minimum number of signatures or not. So both parties will be on the ballot, unless there is a challenge. The Green Party believes that its 39,000 signatures will survive a challenge, since they were collected very carefully. The Constitution Party is very vulnerable to a challenge,, since its petition had only 4,500 signatures.

  1. The Independence Party of Illinois also filed candidates for the statewide offices, led by Nita Shinn for Gov. No clue how many signatures they have, but probably very, very few. Looks they are former Reform Party people.

  2. Just wondering…I’m surprised that the Libertarian Party doesn’t have a candidate filed with the State of Illiois Board of Elections. Am I to assume that they didn’t file a candidate?

  3. Regarding the Governor’s Race in Illinois: I’m surprised that the Libertarian Party doesn’t have a candidate filed with the Board of Elections. Am I to assume that they didn’t file a candidate?

  4. The new leaders of the LP Illinois are basically worthless when it comes to political activism and running candidates. I’m the former ED. They even had two state rep. races where they were established and didn’t need a single signature to run a candidate and they failed to do so. No, they didn’t even try to squeak a candidate by a challenge by filing nomination papers for ANY race this year in the entire state, and they didn’t try to petition in any race this year either. It’s really sad.
