Barack Obama Will Only be on Democratic Line in South Carolina

South Carolina permits fusion. This year, two ballot-qualified minor parties definitely wanted to list Barack Obama as their presidential nominee, and a third ballot-qualified party inclined toward Obama as well. However, the Obama campaign has declined all those nominations. Therefore, the Working Families Party, the United Citizens Party, and the Independence Party, will simply have no presidential nominee.

Last month, South Carolina agreed that if a presidential candidate did have a nomination from multiple parties, and if the parties jointly nominated the same slate of presidential elector candidates, then all votes would count.

Barack Obama Will Only be on Democratic Line in South Carolina — No Comments

  1. The deadline for submitting names for the ballot was September 10. The three parties don’t have any recourse now.

The Democrats might have used the WFP to run Michael Cone against neo-confederate Robert M. Conley. Cone was endorsed by the WFP in May, prior to losing to Conley after a recount in the DP primary. The WFP didn’t forward that nomination to the Electoral Commission, apparently.

  2. Funny how Barack Hussein obama,, flip flopper the the extreme,
DId Obama say, he is not going to give you the same old politics,
but what is he doing here,,
His tit for tat, with Mccain is putting Obama on the ropes
    The man has no agenda,
I wished Hillary who I voted for was the one,
    Not Barack Obama,
RIght now Obama is making Joe Biden quit, so he can get Hillary on the ticket , Biden don’t want to quit, but Barack is going to force him out, I am a Democrat, for McCAIN,

  3. The WFP didn’t certify any of their nominees in SC to the State Elections Commission to be on the November ballot. Including the District 115 race where Eugene Platt is in court trying to secure his rightful place on the ballot as the Green nominee. What is this Party around for?!

  4. Is Paul V a real person? In any case, I disagree with the comments that were made. Senator Barack Obama is a very good man.

  5. In 2004 the United Citizens Party nominated the Socialist Party USA presidential ticket. Might there be a possible argument for re-nominating the SP ticket as a default, despite the deadline just having passed?

South Carolina doesn’t allow write-in votes, so South Carolina voters supporting non-ballot qualified candidates are totally disenfranchised. I know of countless SC voters who have contacted the Moore-Alexander campaign hoping for a way to vote for the Socialist ticket in this election. It’s going to be a tremendous shame if they’re all denied that right this year while another party that likely would at this point nominate the Socialist ticket is now denied the right to nominate anyone.
