Americans Elect Submits Papers to Qualify in Vermont

On December 28, Americans Elect submitted paperwork to the Vermont Secretary of State’s office, to become a qualified party in that state. Vermont allows a group to transform itself into a qualified party if the group shows that it has a town committee in at least 10 towns. Americans Elect submitted paperwork for 15 towns.

The deadline for this process is December 31, 2011. It seems likely that Americans Elect will be the only new group to qualify in Vermont by the organization method. The previously qualified minor parties in Vermont are all re-qualifying, however. They are the Liberty Union, Libertarian, and Working Families Parties. The Progressive Party continues to be a qualified major party along with the Democrats and Republicans. Major parties nominate by primary and have their own presidential primary; qualified minor parties nominate by convention.

Groups that fail to qualify by organization can place candidates on the November ballot if they submit candidate petitions by June 2012, listing their nominees. Those petitions allow a party label for the group. The June petition deadline is under court attack for being too early.

  1. “keep on truckin” to where.

I keep wondering if anyone has a clue who will end up being the nominee.
Or, do they already know and are just setting up the appearance of a “people’s process”.

Hard to believe they’d spend all this money to just have any bozo walk away with the AE spot.

Chance they really just want a fair third way that doesn’t include the main objective of knocking off either the Republican or Democrat from any chance?

Chance they think any AE candidate can actually win?

    We have Obama vs Romney.
Who fits in between those two and offers a real opportunity to pick up any electoral votes such as to throw it into the House.
Anyone to the right of Romney essentially gives the election to Obama and no one left of Obama stands a chance of being the AE candidate.

    All a mystery for now.

  2. Del,

    Tranquilo amigo.

AE candidate might be someone you really like. Might be someone you really hate. Just like if you were/are a Republican or Democrat and don’t like your party’s nominee.

Don’t even bring up the nonsense about a spoiler. It only shows your major party allegiance. Thus your insincerity.

  4. What if it turns out that Americans Elect Delegates (registered voters who sign on to Americans Elect as Delegates) overwhelmingly support Elizabeth Warren as their nominee?
She might get the vote for President from disgusted Democrats and Republicans, formerly undecideds, independents, moderates, centrists, liberals and Americans who would love to see a strong, well-qualified woman in the White House. Collectively they could be a powerful force.
