Missouri U.S. Senate Poll Asks About All Three Candidates

On October 3, Public Policy Polling released a poll for the U.S. Senate race in Missouri. The results: Democratic incumbent Claire McCasill 46%, Republican Todd Akin 40%, Libertarian Jonathan Dine 9%, undecided 5%.

In the entire history of U.S. Senate elections in Missouri, no candidate other than the Democratic or Republican nominee has ever polled as much as 5%. Missouri, and the nation, have been holding popular general elections for U.S. Senate starting in 1914. Thanks to PoliticalWire for the link.

Missouri U.S. Senate Poll Asks About All Three Candidates — 6 Comments

  1. Is there any distincition of major party status in Missouri? Since this is a statewide election its possible Dine could give the libertarian party major party status in Missouri if they have such a distinction there.

  2. and no Libertarian has topped 6.2% in a MO statewide race if I recall correctly.

    But I don’t think there’s any major party status in MO. If you get 2% in a statewide election once every 4 years, you’re on the ballot and you hold your own primary and everything.

    Both the Constitution and Libertarian Parties are qualified through 2014 due to their 2010 showings. The Libertarians will top 2% and get qualified for 2016 this Nov. The Constitution Party has 3 candidates but they’re all in 4-way races (D/R/L/C), and the CW is that Cynthia Davis will be their best candidate. Since Missouri has one statewide race in 2014 (the State Auditor), any party that needs 2% in 2012 should aim to get it in 2012 instead of having one shot at 2% in 2014.

  3. I totally called this a couple weeks ago. Since Akin has went down a little bit in popular approval, people might turn to the Libertarian nominee.

  4. Missouri only has one category of qualified party, and all qualified parties nominate by primary (except that newly-qualifying parties nominate by convention). The Libertarian Party has had party status, with its own primary, since it met the vote test in November 1992.

  5. How many minority gerrymander EXTREMIST gerrymander winners will there be in Nov. 2012 ???

    The semi-permanent gerrymander Senate is likely THE most ANTI-Democracy legislative body in the alleged free world.
    WY = CA = INSANITY.

    The Senate is a part of the EVIL compromise stuff in the EVIL top secret 1787 Fed Convention between the EVIL small States and the even worse EVIL then slave States.

    P.R. and nonpartisan App.V.

    Save Democracy before it is too late — which it may well be – due to the monarchy stuff in each New Age Prez.

  6. Why is it that Public Policy Polling polls seem to be higher in number then other polls? In Ballot Access news, it mentioned a Montana poll that had the Libertarian US Senate candidate at 8%, but another Mason/Dixon poll had the candidate at 1%. Do polls vary that much?
