Clemson University Student Newspaper Carries Op-Ed Advocating a New Major Political Party

The Clemson University student weekly newspaper, The Tiger News, has this column by Joshua Rooks, advocating that a new major political party arise in the United States. The Tiger News, founded in 1907, is the oldest student-run newspaper in South Carolina.

    I read the brief article and your comment which I hope they found informative.
    I’m stunned that a University, probably one that may have at least a few political science classes, would have their student paper publish such an uninformed article. It’s speaks volumes about how poorly even higher level institutions, educate their students as to what a political party is and how one attains ballot access to field candidates.

    It’s almost as if they hold to the theory of “spontaneous generation” in that one simply “calls forth” an entity called a “political party.” Candidates spring forth from the ether onto the ballots while a throng of supporters come to the party and its candidates.

    Recent history that even with funding from Ross Perot or American’s Elect that building an enduring political party is a major long term commitment in sustaining resources.
