Washington Post Carries Analysis of California Top-Two System — No Comments

  1. Obviously there might be 0, 1 or 2 alleged *moderates*.

Much more likely to get 2 plurality gang EXTREMISTS.

    —-
    NO primaries.

    P.R. and nonpartisan App.V.

  2. It is interesting that the Public Policy Institute found greater participation by independents in 2012.

  3. My takeaway with article is that most voters appreciate identifiers with the candidate name such that they might readily discern what their politics are. Multiple parties and other endorsements (fusion) listed would give most voters what their looking for.

Leland Yee would have polled far less without the “D” as many voters don’t understand it doesn’t mean much, but that’s all there is.

  4. Just because voters respond to the stimulus of party identifiers does not mean that they appreciate them. More discerning voters may resent them, knowing that they will be blindly followed by other voters who may end up voting for candidates indicted for gun-running.

If the parties were responsible for doing their own campaigning it is unlikely that anyone would have sent out a mailer saying to vote for Leland Yee.
