  1. Good editorial, but I really don’t think the major parties – particularly the Republican legislators are going to be moved. They’ve argued for years that we should look for our political salvation within the GOP, then once we take them up on their suggestion, we are then told we must cross our “t’s” and dot our “i’s” just the way the Establishment says on any issue which the Establishment holds a position on.

There is only only group which might leave the Alabama Republican Party in mass and those are the Christian voters. The GOP wants to keep its grip on Montgomery so bad, they are beginning to brush off its traditional position on the family and a host of other social issues.

I have said the day the GOP turns its back on Christian voters will be the day when many Christians will leave them. That may be witnessed in the near future. Even then, this might not cause Christians to leave the party. The GOP leaders will button-hole Christian leaders and do all they can to get them to keep their flocks in check. What I am saying is, there are Christians, and then, there are Christians. I think some readers know what I am talking about. There is the real Christians who truly believes the teachings of the Faith, and then there are those who claim they do, but their actions are different.

    Keep your eyes on Alabama!

  2. I’ve notice that I am the only one who has commented on the terrible ballot access law in Alabama. Not a word from the Constitution(al) Party leaders, the Green Party folks, nor the Libertarians.

Perhaps these groups are content to leave well enough alone, and hopefully one day that “knight in silver armor” will come riding into town with their respective party banner, then they will be motivated to gather the some 30 thousand plus signatures to get on the ballot.

And to a point, I can’t much blame them. Even though Senator Cam Ward had said he will re-introduce legislation reducing the current 3% to 1.5%, I comment Senator Ward for doing this for some 3 or 4 sessions now. But he seems to make no headway, despite his growing influence in the Alabama Legislature. I’m not the one to be giving political advice to Senator Ward, but perhaps he hopes to incorporate this legislation into some more important election legislation and it chances of being passed will be greater.

Still, I would love to see a George Wallace type politician come on the scene in Alabama, and he could get those 30 thousand plus signatures gathered in 2 or 3 weeks. How I long for the days when a politician like a Wallace could pull into a little community of 4,000 people, and half of them would show up at this rally for some old style “stumping” politics.

Sadly, long gone are those days.

  3. You’re confused. The LP and CP are very active in pushing ballot access reform in Alabama.
