Illinois Legislature Seems Likely to Pass a Bill for a Special Election in 2016 for Comptroller

According to this news story, it seems likely the Illinois legislature is likely to pass a bill providing for a special election for State Comptroller in 2016. Normally that office is up in midterm years and has a four-year term. Judy Baar Topinka was re-elected State Comptroller in November 2014 but then she died before the new term started.

  1. The only fair thing to do. Let the Governor appoint someone to serve the first two years, then have a special election for the remaining two year at the regular election cycle in 2016. No extra cost to taxpayers. This is real Conservative government.

  2. What should happen is they should write a law that would force a special election two years later for every row office. Not just the comptroller office for this situation. It is political wheeling and dealing on the apart of Madigan.
