Colorado Bill to Establish a Presidential Primary Dies

On May 4, the Colorado bill to establish a presidential primary lost in the Senate Appropriations Committee 4-3. Colorado hasn’t had a presidential primary since 2000. After Washington and Minnesota, Colorado is the most populous state that won’t have a presidential primary in 2016. Thanks to Josh Putnam for this news.

  1. The Senate Appropriations Committee must be where they send bills to die. The Montana legislature had the House Appropriations Committee where those folks sent bills to die.

  2. Under current law, Washington has a presidential primary.

    Colorado had a presidential primary in 2000. It was repealed in 2002.

  3. Jim, you’re right about Colorado’s last primary being in 2000, and I thank you for that. As to Washington, no one expects the state to have a presidential primary in 2016; it isn’t in the budget and the Democrats have already said they don’t want one.
