Florida Republican Party Tells Secretary of State to Print Bobby Jindal’s Name on Primary Ballot, Even Though he Dropped Out

The Florida Republican Party has told the Florida Secretary of State to list 14 candidates on its March 15, 2016 presidential primary ballot. See this story. The list includes Bobby Jindal, even though he withdrew on November 17.

  1. The SOS now contacts each of the candidates who will have an opportunity to remove their name from the ballot.
    (Florida statutes 103.101(2) and (3).

  2. There may be technical reasons to suspend a campaign, such as being able to accept donations and pay bills. Rick Perry also said he was “suspending” his campaign. The independent PAC’s associated with his campaign refunded their contributions and disbanded. There were only a very few donors, and one threatened to make a lot of noise unless he got a refund.
