  1. 61% of the increases since 2008 are due in registration for the American Independent Party. (The Green Party is the only party to decline – 25% since 2008, and are excluded from the denominator in calculating the share of increase).

15% is due to the Libertarians, 7% is due to P&F, and 16% is due to other miscellaneous parties. Almost all of the “other” growth is in Alameda County. Alameda may be counting anything that does not check the DTS or NPP box and writes something in as registering a party preference (“independent”, “ind”, “I”, and “none” may have been indicated.

  2. Most (3/4) of the growth in minor parties was due to voters registering with the American Independent Party, which has very few candidates, or in other miscellaneous parties.

Most of this growth in other miscellaneous parties was in Alameda County. It is likely that Alameda County is counting certain registrations different than other counties.
