California Bill to Send All Registered Voters a Mail Ballot Advances

On June 29, the California Assembly Elections Committee passed SB 450 by 5-2. Starting in 2018, the bill would let some counties send ballots in the postal mail to all registered voters. There would no longer be precinct polling places in those counties, but there would be vote centers for people who wish to vote at the polls, or to drop off their voted ballots other than by postal mail. Starting in 2020, the bill would be in effect for the entire state. The two Republicans on the committee voted against the bill. The bill has already passed the Senate.

  1. One more step on the Donkey communist agenda to get TOTAL PERMANENT CONTROL.

How soon before ONLY Donkey communists are in sunny CA — eating each other 24/7 (while being politically correct, of course) ???

  2. Richard:

    1) Does this bill have a formula specifying how many of these drop-off voting center locations could be set-up based on total registration within the County?

    2) Does this law ALSO REQUIRE that any-or-all local (non-County administered) elections now be forced to have THEIR elections done by mail WHETHER OR NOT the jurisdiction wants to handle it that way?

    3) Was there a cost analysis done to claim (accurately or not) that ALL the County Clerk/Recorder Office’s will be able to save money administering elections by mail?

Incidentally, I’m totally opposed to vote-by-mail balloting WHERE the voter will NOT be away from home on Election Day because 1) Now all voting is spread out over a month, making it more difficult for less-financed candidates to
be competitive. and 2) What happens if important new information comes out shortly before the election or as what DID happen in 1998 in Los Angeles County the incumbent candidate for Sheriff died a few days before the election. The Board of Supervisors came out saying, vote for the dead man so we can APPOINT someone “we prefer” if he wins.
