Three Independent Presidential Petitions Submitted in Alabama

Alabama’s petition deadline for independent presidential candidates is 4:30 pm on Thursday, August 18. Three petitions were submitted: Rocky De La Fuente, Gary Johnson, and Jill Stein. Here is a news story noting that Evan McMullin did not submit a petition.

  1. There is no way Castle can make it to 270 now. Even if he got on in Minnesota, Rhode Island, and Virginia and made it in all the states where he is shown pending, that’s only 265. Honestly I don’t know why the CP doesn’t have the foresight to understand how important that number is and plan for it well ahead of time.

  2. Well, in 2012 Virgil Goode didn’t get to 270 either. Since there was no hope that Darrell Castle was going to be in the debates, there is really no other significance to reaching 270.

  3. Expect to see them use the excuse that- ‘if we have ‘write-in status’, it still counts’.

    With the way the CP is being run, it is dying -and the possibility of Religious Right GOP voters flocking en masse to that party has passed long long ago.

  4. The Facebook page for the Alabama Libertarian Party is reporting that they submitted over 10,000 raw signatures. Alabama’s signature requirement is 5,000 valid signatures. This should give the LP candidate ample margin for error.
