Kansas Says Jill Stein Petition is Valid

On August 23, the Kansas Secretary of State said the Jill Stein independent petition has enough valid signatures. Her petition was the only independent petition filed.

The qualified parties are Democratic, Libertarian, and Republican. The Reform Party was previously ballot-qualified, but Secretary of State Kris Kobach removed it from the ballot in December 2012, even though by precedent and the previous interpretation of the law by earlier Secretaries of State, the party should have remained on the ballot. But the Reform Party of Kansas didn’t fight back.

  1. Richard, wasn’t Americans Elect removed from the ballot that year as well by the same interpretation of the law?

  2. No, Americans Elect was removed from the Kansas ballot because Americans Elect asked to be taken off the ballot. Americans Elect asked to be taken off the ballot in all states in which it had qualified. Some states complied with the request and some didn’t.

  3. Was glad to sign (even though they didn’t need my signature it sounds like). Like I told the Stein campaign contact who I met with, I fully intend to vote for Gary Johnson, but believe all presidential candidates who are even remotely “legitimate” deserve to be on the ballot.
