U.S. District Court Ends Michigan Recount

Late on December 7, the same U.S. District Court who had ordered Michigan to go ahead with the recount issued a new order, stopping the recount. In the meantime the Michigan state court of appeals had interpreted Michigan recount law to mean that Jill Stein is not an aggrieved candidate, so she has no authority to request a recount.   1. The democratic process surely is dead in the US. There’s zero checks on power now, since all of those checks are closely related to one another. One of the biggest mistakes the founders made was permitting the appointment of (including judges) without term limits and required re-appointments. When a politician is permitted to appoint a person to an office, that office will ALWAYS be compromised from having an unbiased point of view in favor of that politician’s viewpoints, and now by extension that politician’s party’s viewpoints (since in reality the individual in the seat doesn’t matter anymore, as they’ve all foregone personal positions and all take the party’s position).

    Thus we have a system controlled by Republicans and Democrats to only benefit Republicans and Democrats.

  3. Yep, I second Carrick. We now have a nation that is by the Democrats and Republicans and for the Democrats and Republicans. A two-party dictatorship that only permits token opposition so as to fool world opinion. If anyone outside of the US is reading this, those of us who still believe in democratic elections and the freedoms of speech and association could really use some help here.

  7. Besides the 3 FATAL minority rule gerrymander systems in the DEAD USA Const there are also the major fatal violations of separation of powers —

    Prez veto power, Prez pardon power, Prez treaty power, Prez appointment of hack judges and top officers (i.e. USA Marshals and USA District Attorneys)

    If the decision not to hear the case was “split”, with a dissent from “several justice[s]” — after two of the seven agreed to recuse themselves — then it was likely the 3-2 partisan vote many people expected. (Which reminds me: I still need to research how we got a state Supreme Court with candidates nominated by the parties, but then elected in the non-partisan section of the ballot. . . .)
