Rocky De La Fuente Announces Run as a Republican for Mayor of New York City — 7 Comments

  1. So he runs for President in the Democratic primaries, then creates a party to continue that campaign as an “independent” — and now he’s running for mayor of NYC as a Republican. . . .

Does that say more about De La Fuente or the state of the “Big Two”?

  2. That sort of thing is extremely common in New York elections. John Lindsay was re-elected on the Liberal Party line in 1969 after he lost his own party’s primary. Senator Jacob Javits ran for re-election as the Liberal nominee in 1980 after he lost his own party’s primary. Mayor Bloomberg was the Republican nominee for Mayor each time he ran, even though he had been a Democrat and in his last years registered as an independent.

  3. Maybe he can run against himself as “Fuente” instead of “de le Fuente” on yet another line !

  4. I think he would do better running in Philadelphia. He has name recognition there.

I think Bloomberg lived in Bermuda on weekends. He probably didn’t want to be seen as an out of touch elitist who had a place in the Hamptons.

  5. Does he live in New York City? I thought he was from California. Then he ran as a Democrat for Senate from Florida. The money this man has spent on political endeavors could have been spent much more productively. He almost surely could have been elected as a Democrat to a state legislative seat with that type of spending. Or he could have devoted it to building one third party.

  6. He apparently had a long-time residence in Orlando.

His son is running for a congressional seat in California. He sued because “D” was not as well placed as “F” in the random drawing used for ballot order. Or maybe he wanted to used “L”.

Lindsay, Javits, and Bloomberg were all longtime or lifelong New York City residents.

This guy has zero connection with NYC. He’s not even interesting enough to serve the NYC media as comic relief.
