  1. It is very likely that a Democrat will be elected governor of NJ this November. It will be interesting to see if this same bill passes again once there is a new governor who will sign it

  2. This would have been the start to a very concerning path with multitudes of differing requiremnets across the country. Why not have them release their health records, college transcripts, paid speeches, genetic code, internet history? If you allow states to set additional requirements for appearing on the ballot other than what’s in the constitution then anything is fair game.

  3. Brandon makes many excellent points. As I recall college transcripts were sealed for both the Obamas and Hillary Clinton. There is also the birth certificate fiasco for Barack Obama. Things could get very messy if states set additional requirements but potentially very interesting as well.

  4. If the NPVIC ever gets off the ground this could also be a huge roadblock if states have different criteria to get on the ballot, and along those same lines another hurdle would be if different states have different requirements to register or vote.

  5. I like having presidential candidates tax information available and would dearly love to see Donald Trump’s and hopefully find out some truth about his financial sources, taxes and charitable giving BUT
the U. S. Constitution is clear that the qualifications for President and Vice President are age 35 and natural born citizen. Therefore, any such legislation would most likely (and rightly so) be ruled as unconstitutional. In this particularly case, Gov. Christie’s veto comes across strongly partisan and pro-Trump despite his, after so vigorously campaigning for Trump, being “dumped” by Trump.

  6. The President and Vice President both also have to be a resident of this country for at least 14 years, Gene, as well as being a natural-born citizen and 35 years of age.
