Memphis Will Use Ranked Choice Voting for City Council Elections Starting in 2019

Memphis, Tennessee, will use ranked choice voting for its city council elections, starting in 2019. The elections are non-partisan. The plan had passed in Memphis ten years ago, but it took a great deal of time for election officials to obtain vote-counting equipment that would work. See this story. 1. SORRY – RCV (AKA IRV) IS ALSO DEFECTIVE.

    34 A–M–Z
    33 Z–M–A
    16 M–A–Z
    16 M–Z–A
    99

    WITH RCV, M LOSES, 50 A > 49 Z

CONDORCET HEAD TO HEAD MATH (AROUND SINCE THE 1780S – REPEAT 1780S)-
    65 M > 34 A
    66 M > 33 Z

    MODERATE MIDDLE M HAS A MERE 99 VOTES IN 1ST + 2ND PLACE

  2. Not how it works Demo Rep… your post regarding this matter has been thoroughly debunked repeatedly, it’s kind of fucking pathetic that you can’t get that through your head.

  3. @Aiden James, How does it work?

Imagine Ann Archer (Anarchist Party), Zed Zigzag (Zealot Party), and Mary Modern (Moderate Party) were running, and the votes cast were

    34 voters voted A-M-Z
    33 voters voted Z–M–A
    16 voters voted M–A–Z
    16 voters voted M–Z–A
99 total cast. How would it work?

  4. Fairvote and COFOE’S (BAN) support for RCV in single-winner districts will simply cement a one-party system because only the biggest civic group attains the required 50% (plus one vote) under their defective voting system year after year.

Are you interested in pure proportional representation (PR) for low thresholds and team psychology?

The 10th USA Parliament has been using PR correctly for more than twenty-two consecutive years and it works fine.

Now there is a global effort for PR and it’s sweeping the Earth on six geographic levels simultaneously.

Nobody has it as good as the United Coalition.

  5. THE LEFT / RIGHT ROT MAY GET SUPER-BAD —

    49 A–M–Z
    48 Z–M–A
    1 M–A–Z
    1 M–Z–A
    99

    MODERATE MIDDLE M HAS A MERE 99 VOTES IN 1ST + 2ND PLACE

    WHO WINS ???

  6. @DEMO REP
In your example A would win in both IRV & FPTP, can you give an example where the “rightful winner” (In your opinion) would win using FPTP but fail under IRV. While IRV is not perfect it is significantly better than FPTP.

  7. Sorry – BOTH FPTP and IRV are and have been super-dangerous — in producing armies of robot party hack extremists — for centuries for FPTP – going back to the 1200s in not so jolly olde England — formation of the English House of Commons.

Political *science* has advanced since the DARK AGE —

    P.R. and App.V. — pending Condorcet math (noted in the 1780s – repeat 1780s).

It took the 2 World Wars to note the total evil of having monarch/oligarch regimes — e.g. Central Powers and the Axis Powers.

FPTP and IRV are more monarch/oligarch stuff – esp in legislative body elections.
