Politico Story Says Democrats May Intervene in Republican Primaries and Vote for Least Attractive Republican — 14 Comments

  1. Pretty sure the Democrats tried that in 2016 with getting the Republicans to nominate Trump instead of Rubio or someone. Didn’t work out so well

  2. That kind of thing has been known to backfire. But if it does they will have no one to blame but themselves.

  3. Believe me, I know. I get third parties on the ballot for a living and I can’t count how many I run into that blame us for Trump, even though Johnson got over 3 times as many votes as Stein. Never mind the evidence though, it’s always someone else’s fault with them.

  4. Been going on in all States having open primaries since 1888.

Yet another reason to have NO primaries.

  5. Actually it’s a perfect reason to have primaries. If the Democrats want to fuck themselves over, like they always do, let them. Perfect way for third-parties to finally make a sell to the public and to tell the public “it’s time to tell the Republican and Democratic Parties to go fuck themselves”… maybe not that language on TV, but perfect for YouTube.

  6. Which primary plurality super-extremist will be the USA version of Stalin or Hitler (rashly assuming that it has NOT already happened) — producing Civil War II and/or World War III ???

  7. Unless we are very lucky Trump will make them both look like pikers before he’s done.

  8. In Wyoming, my experience is exactly the opposite of the thesis of the article. Dems crossing over to vote for RINOs is the norm here.

  9. Also – in overall one party control regimes with closed primaries — roughly 55 percent or more —

some of the voters are NOT really with the apparent control gang but vote in the closed primaries of such control gang for the greater or lesser of perceived evils.

Another perversion — top 2 primaries in one party gerrymander areas – CA, WA, etc.

NO primaries – to end the open/closed primary machinations.

  10. Don, that’s because much like many parts of Indiana, Wyoming is a one-party Republican state, and if you want to help choose the person who’ll actually win, you have no choice but to vote for the most moderate Republican in those states, at least, in the point of view of some Democrats. I’ll just write-in candidates that get 50 votes state-wide over supporting moderate conservatives here, but I’m also not a Democrat, so that could explain it.
