Indiana Ballot Access Bill Passes Senate Committee

On January 22, the Indiana Senate Elections Committee passed SB 328 by 6-3. It lowers the number of signatures for an independent candidate, or the nominee of an unqualified party, from 2% of the last Secretary of State vote, to one-half of 1% of the last Secretary of State vote. If it passes, it takes effect January 1, 2019. Thanks to Craig Marolf for this news.

UPDATE: see this news story about the bill (the lower half of the article).

  1. Is there a released count of the ayes and nays, and if not, is such a thing normally released? I can’t find any information on how the vote split after a precursory look. I’m especially interested in the votes of the two Democrats on the committee, since last time such a bill was up, two of the no votes were from Democrats.

  2. Well, that’s certainly a nice change of pace. I wonder if there was something specifically they disliked about the last one. Anyway, thanks for the update.

  3. Donkeys are obviously hoping the LP having ballot candidates will enable the Donkeys to divide and conquer the Elephants.
