New York Times Story on California Top-Two System

The New York Times has this story about California’s top-two system, with emphasis on the point that it sometimes shuts out a major party from having a candidate on the November ballot, even though that major party might have the potential to win that election in another type of system.

  1. ANY NYT stories about —

    NO primaries

PR and AppV — pending Condorcet ???

  2. Top Two wouldn’t be bad if they actually made it two round, instead of primary -> general…. it should be party primary -> first round (with only one candidate from each party + unaffiliated) -> Second round with top-two from first round…. aka the French system.

  3. Demo Rep…. to think about it correctly, this really is a no primary election…. It’s two round with out a whittling down of party’s candidates to only one candidate. Round 1 is everybody, Round 2 is the top two vote getters from the first round…. You should love this. I guess if they got rid of the party labels then you wouldn’t complain?
