New Mexico Politico Predicts that Secretary of State Plans to Downgrade the Libertarian Party’s Legal Status — 17 Comments

  1. First of all, losing Major Party status is not the same thing as losing ballot access qualification. Ballot qualification is covered in Section 1-7-2(C) which requires 1/2 percent for either governor or president. But, as is typical, Section 1-7-7 does appear to be poorly worded:

    A. “major political party” means any qualified political party, any of whose candidates received as many as five percent of the total number of votes cast at the last preceding general election for the office of governor or president of the United States, as the case may be, and whose membership totals not less than one-third of one percent of the statewide registered voter file on the day of the governor’s primary election proclamation; and…

Thus, since New Mexico’s gubernatorial elections are held in mid-term election years, 1-7-7(A) wording is just identifying election years and not the specific governor/presidential races. So, yes, it would appear that a county dog catcher candidate could secure Major status. Which begs (hah, a pun) the question, What is/are the advantages of Major versus minor party status?

  2. I wonder when she is going to run for governor? She seems to do a LOT of things without authority. She would make a perfect chief executive!

  3. New Mexico treats qualified minor parties very badly. Uniquely, after a qualified minor party has its convention and nominates its candidates, none of those candidates (except president and vice-President) are on the ballot. Instead they must go out in a short time and get a petition equal to 1% of the last gubernatorial vote. That is why New Mexico for the last 30 years has had fewer minor party and independent candidates on the ballot than any other state. The Independent petition is also horrible, 3% of the last gubernatorial vote.

  4. These recent shenanigans by the New Mexico SoS seems more akin to some backwards third-world country whose adherence to ‘democratic’elections is nominal at best. Shameful.

  5. RW – Any genius lawyer in NM capable of detecting —

    1. Separate is NOT equal — major / old minor / new minor parties, independents – 4 types.

2. Each election is NEW – since FIRST election.

    3. EQUAL ballot access tests for ballot access — ALL candidates for SAME office in SAME area.

    4. Ongoing perversion of 1 Amdt regarding *election mechanics*.

  6. It’s about time that a female SoS take the time to deal with the chauvinistic attitudes of third parties and the third parties continued opposition to free speech, equal treatment and equal time for women.

Our team on the united Coalition USA is standing up for female politians of all parties and independents by making our opposite gender ahead of ourselves with consecutively ranked alternating genders thereafter and our best team players will earn our votes from now on until a 50/50 gender balance is reached.

  7. James, you constantly talk about your team, but no one else from your group ever comments here, or even e-mails me, or ever phones me.

  8. Thanks for your interest in the United Coalition’s work since 1995 when we first started struggling to find enough female candidates for elections including US President in 2020.

With more 353 nominees already filed for POTUS 2020 we have a small pool of potential female POTUS candidates from whom to unite.

Until then Mark Herd and I are standing in as candidates for US President in 2020.

Go Herd / Ogle for President in 2020

  9. The United Coalition USA has been promoting pure proportional representation (PPR) since 1993 CA CD 17 election when candidates for Congress James Ogle [Environmentalist] and Kevin Clark [Green] brought to unity phenomena to Central California.

BAN has blocked the United Coalition for the past twenty-three consecutive years by helping to cement a one party county voting system in SF, by lobbying against the top two voting system which is a three party system, by censoring our voices while supporting opponents of our team.

    All is forgiven.

It’s time for a new beginning. To celebrate our team is offering 1000 voting stocks for sale to the highest bids on October 5th 2018.

  10. Ogle, give names besides Mark Herd, if that is even a real person. Many, myself included, think all of these people are in your head. Why else would you have to constantly spam boards, so much so some have banned you?

Surprised you didn’t try to run for President in 2018 like you did in 2014…

  11. So All Party System Co is basically an education/entertainment company whose source of revenue is selling shares, ownership of which allows a person to participate in the education/entertainment provided by the company – the parliament?

  12. As a membership entity, the All Party System Co.’s income is primarily derived from IP Senator ($60. year) signups.

The shares sales are the way we can raise startup money for the team.

But we aren’t like any company currently doing business in the USA because our company structure is built on new democratic principles not used by all USA C corporations: pure proportional representation, perpetual votes of confidence for CEOs and 50/50 balance in make up for the BoDs with half elected from all the company’s workers and half from the top ten voting stock holders.

It’s a new way to conduct business being developed by the political entity, the United Coalition.

  13. Mark Herd is a real person and all the names who participate with the United Coalition are verified by our team to be real people.

For example, our International Parliament (IP) Senators have all provided proof of state ID before their names are elected to the IP Senate Chamber.

You can see their photos and the IP Senate IDs that we issue after completed state ID verification:

  14. Jeff,

So as I read the statute, it doesn’t matter that the NMLP doesn’t have a gubernatorial candidate running (which I understand to be the case). Instead, the votes for any candidate can qualify, as long as they equal 5% of the total votes cast in the governor’s race this year. Thus, for example, if Gary Johnson got votes equal to 5% of the total vote cast for governor, the LP remains a major party beyond 2018.

Hopefully the NM SOS will learn how to read statutes. But, as they say, hope springs eternal.

  15. Jim, to clarify, share purchase is not a requirement to participate in either of the political or business entities: the United Coalition (political) or All Party System Co. (business).

Both entities’ guidelines try to protect the 50/50 balance between free participation and monetary participation.

Of course the monetary participation side consists of more benefits and potential rewards.
