At the recent election, Lane County, Oregon voters narrowly rejected STAR voting, a new idea for a voting system. It received 48% and if it had pased, it would have been used to elect county officials. Lane County includes Eugene, the home of the University of Oregon. Damn it, So close of seeing them having Modified Score/Ranked-Choice voting system hybrid in their county.
I haven’t studied STAR voting but I am highly sceptical of any kind of “advanced voting system” that allows single winner districts because when done wrong it will guarantee a one-party system.
Much like SF’s single winner districts, where RCV guarantees one-party rule, and incredibly the SF system is supported by “voting reformers”.
Show me where the guidelines for STAR voting prohibit single-winner districts.
