Louisiana Secretary of State Posts Candidate List for 2019 State Election

Louisiana elects all its state legislators, and all its statewide state officers, in October 2019. On August 8, the Secretary of State posted a list of candidates for that election. See here, and choose “View Qualified Candidates.”

The Independent Party and the Libertarian Party are the only minor parties with any candidates. The Independent Party is running Gary Landrieu for Governor. It also has one candidate for the State Senate, and seven for State House.

The Libertarian Party has two State Senate candidates and four State House candidates.

In Louisiana, actual independent candidates (for office other than President) appear on the ballot with this label: “No party.” One actual independent legislator, Joseph A. Marino III of Gretna, is running for re-election in the 85th district and he has no opponents, so he will be re-elected. Louisiana does not permit write-in votes.

  1. Louisiana makes a distinction between Other Party and No Party. When the Independent Party first qualified, election officials were instructed to inquire whether a candidate was an Independent or an independent.

Gary Landrieu is the cousin of Mitch (and Mary) Landrieu but not connected politically.

Landrieu is running as an Independent. It is offensive to suggest that a political party is running a candidate. Use of run in that sense is more appropriate to ranchers running cattle.

When only one candidate files for office, that race is left off the ballot. That was one of the issues with the Love litigants. They couldn’t even skip the congressional race since there actually was no election on TFTATFMIN.

  2. ALL States should elect State officers in odd years —

to put SOME pressure on USA hacks in even numbered years.

Also elect local officers in even years —

to put SOME pressure on State hacks in odd numbered years.

    MAX 2 year terms – legis/exec.

  3. NOT having the offices listed in 14-2 Amdt on the ballots [with write-in spaces] is a subversion of 14-2.

SCOTUS hacks have been too EVIL CORRUPT/STUPID and failed to note 14-2 in lots of cases.
