Two Former Republican Party Officials Say Republicans Ought to Support the National Popular Vote Plan — 14 Comments

  1. Uniform definition of Elector-Voter in ALL of USA

    — USA/State/local elections — USA Citizen, 18+ years olde — NOOOO criminal/mental machinations.

    Repeal ALL the *negative* stuff.

    PR and AppV and TOTSOP

  2. 2019-2020 USA GOVT MINORITY RULE GERRYMANDER MATH, 7 MAY 2019 V2
    GERRYMANDER LOWLITES MINI SUMMARY —

    A. 30.3 PERCENT OF THE VOTERS ELECTED 218 D USA REPS OF 435 TOTAL IN 2018.

    B. 19.2 PERCENT OF THE VOTERS ELECTED 50 R USA SENATORS OF 100 TOTAL IN 2014-2018 – with R VP.

    C. 25.7 PERCENT OF THE VOTERS ELECTED R PREZ TRUMP IN 2016- 270 of 538 ECV – 28 States and ME CD2

Too many gerrymander math MORONS to count.

  3. Imagine a scenario where the vote total for one or more alternative candidates is in double digits(such as in ’96, ’92, or ’68) and the plurality winner is a Republican who would have lost in the Electoral College if it were not for the EC votes of mostly Democrat states that joined the compact. If the NPV compact goes into effect this could easily happen.

  4. *SIGH* If only anyone had actually read the Constitution of the United States along with the Declaration of Independence and perhaps The Federalist (and Anti-Federalist) Papers then this whole thing would just seem silly.

  5. Saul Anuzis and Michael Steele make very solid points. Everyone should get behind National Popular vote now.

  6. “Imagine a scenario where the vote total for one or more alternative candidates is in double digits(such as in ’96, ’92, or ’68) and the plurality winner is a Republican who would have lost in the Electoral College if it were not for the EC votes of mostly Democrat states that joined the compact. If the NPV compact goes into effect this could easily happen.”

The NPV compact does not go into effect until it is adopted by states with at least 270 electoral votes, and their vote goes to the plurality winner of the national popular vote of all the states, not just of states which join the compact.

While mostly Democratic leaning states and a few toss up states are joining the compact so far, it has majority support in every state from rank and file voters, so supporters could get it on the ballot via initiative in toss up and Republican leaning states which have I & R. It would pass in those states and give the compact over 270 electoral votes to trigger it. I’m surprised it has not happened yet but it will.

  7. “and their vote goes to the plurality winner of the national popular vote of all the states” – this is why I will never support the NPV. Majority or nothing. If no one wins a MAJORITY in the EC it goes to the house and senate for P & VP, the same should be written into the NPV.

  8. NPV scheme – attempt to subvert 14-1 and 14-2 —

having results OUTSIDE a State determine results INSIDE a State.

NO uniform definition of Elector in the NPV scheme-

Nothing to prevent RED communist regimes [CA, NY, MA, etc.] from letting world citizens voting for USA Prez/VP.

  9. That’s a waste of the time. The people of every state support NPV, so a referendum to overturn it where it already passed is a waste of time. However, initiatives to pass it in states where it has not yet passed would be much more interesting.

  10. EN wrote — The people of every state support NPV.

Some sort of poll ??? — esp in 2016 Trump win States ???

IE – With NPV in 2016 – Trump LOSES.

  11. To clarify, Colorado voters will decide at the ballot box in November 2020 (not 2019) if Colorado should be part of the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. It appears all NPVIC official support so far has been through (Democrat-controlled?) state legislatures, not directly by the people. I would not be surprised to see Colorado voters reject the NPVIC; the legislature has over-reached on other issues as well.
