Green Party Wins Three Seats in Canadian House of Commons

The Green Party won three seats in today’s Canadian Parliamentary election. At the previous election, in 2015, they had only won one seat. It is not easy for a smaller party to win any seats, because Canada does not have proportional representation.

The Green Party won a seat in New Brunswick in today’s election, their first federal parliamentary victory outside of British Columbia. Their other two wins were in British Columbia.

    Elections Canada – official results

Did ANY gerrymander oligarch get a majority in his/her gerrymander district [aka *riding*).

IE – ALL losers got more votes than ALL winners ???

IF the Greens and NDP have ANY brain cells, then they will join with the Cons and enact a PR LAW and have a New Election ASAP.

  2. It’s finalized to be three seats (the newest one in New Brunswick’s own provincial capital), while the right-wing People’s Party of Canada has lost its only leader’s seat, and even if the Conservative has the popular vote, but NOT become the new majority, which could ironically finally get them to get on the voting reform train.

  3. Will a Civil WAR start in Canada even before the USA ???

At least NO party color fraud deception as in USA –

ie Canada Libs are RED — with 33.1 [repeat 33.1] pct of popular votes.

IE if such minority rule math occurs in the USA — INSTANT Civil WAR ???

  4. In Canada, does federal law require all federal MP’s be elected in single member districts by plurality vote, or can each province decide its own method of election?

  5. Walter, Canadian law does not let the provinces write election laws relating to elections to the national parliament.

  6. Pre-1776 Brit colony Catholic religion stuff in Quebec >>> religion language in USA Const 1 Amdt.

USA govt — NO USA govt support for ANY religion.

NO attacks on MENTAL parts of ANY religion — Sorry — NO human sacrifices allowed [aka murders] – physical stuff.

Difficult only for religion history MORONS — LOTS in SCOTUS since 1865.

Same sort of Brit legal history stuff for all 1-8 Amdts.

  7. Ahem. Getting back to the original post, I think that Canada voters have some interest in the environmental message of the Greens.

  8. @DR,

123 candidates received a majority of votes in their riding.

Malapportionment cost the Tories 6 seats, and the BQ 1 seat, while the Grits gained 5 and NDP 2.

  9. JR-

    338 gerrymander seats.

The top party HACKS generally are in ONE party safe seat gerrymander areas.

More or less govt $$$ deficits and $$$ debt per voter in Canada or USA ???

Shows in USA $ vs Canada $ [flex plastic money] exchange rates.

    PR and Appv and TOTSOP
