Rocky De La Fuente Withdraws from Some Republican Presidential Primaries

Recently Rocky De La Fuente has withdrawn from the Republican presidential primaries in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Missouri, and Utah. This is probably because he expects to petition as an independent, in those states if not as many states as possible, and he wants to avoid any “sore loser” restrictions. Thanks to Jim Riley for this information.

Rocky De La Fuente Withdraws from Some Republican Presidential Primaries — 19 Comments

  1. when I saw that RDLF was off of the MO Ballot, I was wondering if MO just decided that Rocky and Rocky III were the same candidate and removed him without checking. But his son didn’t file for some of the states listed, so..

  2. Darryl, I think Rocky became a Life Member of the LP around the time of the 2016 National Convention in Orlando. He was among the assortment of fringe candidates who showed up at the last minute to try to get nominated for Prez or VP. Rocky actually had a table in the area outside the convention hall, and I saw him there, but unfortunately I missed my opportunity to talk to him in person. He did not stay long, as he left shortly after he realized there was no way he’d get nominated, or even get enough tokens to speak, and he has had nothing to do with the LP since. His political views are all over the map, so I am not sure how serious he is about the Libertarian philosophy.

  3. If that’s the case, it’s yet another fake libertarian seeking the nomination.

What happened to his Delta Party?

  4. I doubt Rocky would seek the Libertarian nomination, despite his working relationship with Alicia Dearn. His current M.O. seems to be attacking ballot access restrictions, which I applaud him for. The LP has enough ballot access that it really wouldn’t suit his goals.

  5. He’s running for president. He already sought the LP nomination in 2016. Like usual, Zed Jiggler doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

  6. If he really wants to attack ballot access, he should petition to get on everywhere and then refuse to pay the filing fees and subsequently sue when not placed on the ballot. Too many states require both signatures AND cash.

  7. Uncovered Politics by Darcy Richardson website has a story up comparing Rocky De La Fuente to Teddy Roosevelt and suggesting he might “bolt” the corrupt two party duopoly for the LP.

  8. Will Rocky get more or less $$$ from communists/fascists to DIVIDE AND CONQUER the fascists/communists in Nov 2020 ???

  9. I agree with Jeremy. Whatever Rocky’s personal ambitions or policy goals, he is doing a good job attacking ballot restrictions at a critical time. I hope that the plucky squirrel keeps it up.

  10. How are “sore loser” laws for the Presidency still a thing after John Anderson managed to get on all 50 state ballots plus D.C. in 1980, despite running in the Republican primaries that year?

I remember that Gary Johnson was unable to get on the Michigan general election ballot in 2012 because he had run for the Republican nomination before switching to the Libertarian Party. The Michigan LP tried to get around it by finding a different person named “Gary Johnson” to be their stand-in candidate, but they weren’t allowed to do so.

  11. For adults who can read –

    RW sentence–

This is probably because he [Rocky] expects to petition as an independent, in those states if not as many states as possible, and he wants to avoid any “sore loser” restrictions.

  12. Courts have taken another look at “sore loser” laws and decided that being a candidate for a party’s nomination (acquiring delegates) IS the same thing as electing Electors pledged to a nominee. That wasn’t the decision in the 1980 election. Anything to make it more difficult to get on the ballot as anything other than a Demorepublicrat.

  13. NOOO caucuses, primaries and conventions.

    ONE election Day.

Ballot access ONLY via voter Nom pets.

Send ALL the 1776-2020 party hack GANGSTER / tyrant junk stuff to the politics graveyard

    – put next to divine right of kings / *nobles*.
