Two Candidates for Milwaukee County Executive Are Disqualified for Signing For Other Candidates for Same Office

According to this story, two of the three candidates for Milwaukee County Executive are off the ballot. They each needed 2,000 signatures, but the law does not permit voters to sign for more than a single candidate for the same office. But the three candidates all used the same paid petitioners, and the paid petitioners asked voters to sign all three petitions.

The office is non-partisan.

  1. This is atrocious. As a candidate that is collecting signatures for a county office right now, this is nightmarish. Luckily I live in West Virginia, which despite some issues has fairly simple straightforward ballot access.

  2. The law is lousy, but the paid petitioners ought to know the law. Candidates should ask for a refund from the petitioners.
