Kim Wyman, Washington Secretary of State, Won’t Sign Roster as a Republican Even Though She Was Elected as a Republican

Kim Wyman, Secretary of State of Washington, plans to skip voting in the March presidential primary, according to this story. In the state’s presidential primary, voters must sign in as either Republicans or Democrats, in order to get a ballot. Wyman doesn’t wish to sign in as a Republican even though she was elected with “prefers Republican Party” in the state’s top-two 2016 election. She is up for re-election this year. 1. Wyman is the official responsible for the decision to deny the Libertarian Party recognition after the 2016 election, a decision that was justified by taking into account write-in votes. Washington doesn’t count write-in votes for any candidate that doesn’t submit a slate of electors and has never recorded anything about those votes in their reporting of totals to Congress.

  2. Another reason for NOOO primaries — NO public party PURGE lists.

ZERO learned from USA Civil WAR I.

    also- NONPARTISAN exec/judic officers.

  3. Wyman had strongly advocated for a system where a voter did not have to pledge support for a political party in order to have their vote tabulated. The legislature refused to permit this to happen, even though those who wanted to make a public declaration of support for a political party were free to do so.

Hopefully 100s of thousands of Washingtonians will return their ballot without the profession of pretended fealty.

Washington should adopt Top 2 for presidential elections, and eliminate its absurd system for filling vacancies.

  4. @CP,

Washington canvasses write-in votes. It is not necessary to tabulate them in order to ascertain which presidential candidates were elected.
