Virginia Petition Deadline for Non-Presidential Petitions Extended Two Weeks

On April 8, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam moved the non-presidential primary from June 9 to June 23. This automatically extends the non-presidential independent and minor party candidate petition deadline, because the law says those petitions are due on primary day.

The order has no effect on the presidential petition deadline, which continues to be August 21.

Virginia Petition Deadline for Non-Presidential Petitions Extended Two Weeks — 52 Comments

  1. Richard- At what point will it become known whether or not the LP has a chance at 50 state (+DC) ballot status?

  2. The LP is likely to be on the ballot for president in all 51 jurisdictions. The most difficult petition the party faces for that goal is Illinois, but the party is suing Illinois. After that the party’s 2nd biggest petition is Maryland (10,000), but the State Board of Elections is likely going to soften the rqeuirement in some way soon. After those two states all the requirements the LP needs to satisfy are 5,000 or fewer.

  3. I don’t know how they will get any signatures at all unless state lockdown orders end by August or September, which would seem extremely premature and unwise. Even if states ease lockdown orders by then, encouraging a second and larger wave of covid deaths, who in their right mind would sign a petition in a public location or even stop to look at it? Most people I know are paying extra to have their groceries delivered; they’re not even going to be at a store, train stop or library to say no to a petitioner. Nor are they likely to answer at and open the door.

I realize the party is asking or asking states to do away with petition requirements but there’s no reason to assume that all courts will even respond in a timely manner, especially if states appeal. And of they do there’s no reason to assume that they will put the party or its nominees on the ballot.

There could also be delays with the nomination of their ticket, which would give them even less time for their lawsuits to play out.

It’s not impossible they could still make the ballot in every jurisdiction but I sure wouldn’t bet on it.

  4. My best guess is that the hornberger monds ticket will be on the ballot in 42 states and get around 300,000 votes …that is if the November election takes place at all.

  5. They will come on behind Howie Hawkins for 4th place, but Hawkins won’t do as well as either of Jill Stein’s presidential runs.

  6. The Libertarian Party, or any group, can postally mail petition blanks to its members, supporters and donors in various states, and enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope to return the signed petition. Theoretically an ordinary supporter has a handful of family members, roommates, good friends who live nearby, neighbors, possibly co-workers, who can be asked to also sign the petition. It seems to me the ordinary party supporter could get 10 signatures. So petitions of 2,000, or 3,000, or even 5,000 signatures can be completed during the lockdown. Furthermore most presidential petition deadlines are in August.

  7. Theoretically yes but in practice they are likely to get only a few hundred signatures that way in a number of states where they need a few thousand.

  8. Anyone else here suspect that “Peter” and “David” are trolls, and are probably a person who frequently posts here under different names?

  9. Only you (the true cyberpig) and your altar ego Egyptian dog. Besides that no one else really cares.

  10. Andy I suspect you are a troll and that you frequently post under another name, “Egyptian god”.

  11. Andy, why do you think I’m a troll or that I post under other names? What have I said that you have such a hard time believing?

  12. How does “David” know that Hornberger/Monds is going to be the ticket for sure? Hornberger appears to be the frontrunner right now, but I do not think his margin is wide enough to say he has it locked down for sure, and who knows, there could be some latecomers who will jump in the race.

Also, has John Monds even announced that he wants to run for Vice President? I met John Monds at the Libertarian Party of California State Convention back in February, and I spoke to him for awhile, and he said nothing about wanting to run for the VP nomination.

My impression of Monds: He seemed like a good fellow. Our discussion did not delve too deep into policies, but he sounds decent from what I know of him. I know he’s been in the LP for awhile and I know he has run for office in Georgia as an LP candidate, and I recall him getting over a million votes one time, but I think it was one of those statewide offices most people don’t care about, and that one of the major parties did not field a candidate in that race, and it was a two way race, but it was still a nice accomplishment.

One concern I have about Monds is I seem to recall him being a Bob Barr delegate in 2008. I thought Bob Barr was a lousy candidate and not even really a libertarian, and I believe I was proven to be right. If I am correct that Monds supported Bob Barr for the 2008 LP nomination, I would be curious to know whether or not he regrets that decision, and whether or not he thinks that Bob Barr is actually a libertarian. I would also be interested in seeing what his thoughts on Bill Weld are.

  13. I suspect “Andy” and “Peter” are actually the same troll. I have a strong suspicion that he’s actually a Nigerian prince who worships Satan and barks at the moon.

  14. LOL!

I bet “Bernard” and “Peter” and “David” are all the same person.

  15. I never said I know for sure. It’s a guess. Could be Jorgensen-Sarwark or whatever. My point was more that it’s likely to be two people few people outside the party have heard of or will take seriously as presidential candidates, that they will probably have less ballot access than any l.p. ticket since the 80s, that their media coverage will be low, that pro and anti trump voting will be more dominant than even the usual “wasted vote” and “most important election” hype, and that smaller government will not be especially attractive in the midst of a health crisis and global depression.

Sorry if reading my comment too literally caused you to think I’m someone else you know or a troll. 300,000 is likewise only a guess. I have no crystal ball or magical powers and I’m not a time traveller from the future or prophet.

  16. Sorry Andy. I don’t know who Bernard and Peter are, or who you are for that matter, and don’t especially care. What leads you to believe that anyone besides you cares about any of that?

  17. Andy, you have failed to address my questions. Why do you think I’m a troll or any of these other people? What have I said that you have a hard time believing?

  18. Right now, the Libertarian Party has two people running who have some name recognition outside the Libertarian Party. One of them is a goofy and wacky guy who wears a boot on his head, and who goes by the name Vermin Supreme. The other one is Adam Kokesh.

Between Vermin Supreme and Adam Kokesh, it is Adam Kokesh who is known for being a libertarian activist. Vermin Supreme is known as the perennial candidate who wears a boot on his head.

Nobody else currently running for the nomination really has any name recognition outside the LP.

  19. I’m guessing neither of them will be the nominee but again that is just a guess. And no, I don’t think either kokesh or supreme are all that well known or likely to get significantly more votes than say Jorgensen or hornberger.

  20. BAN ALL TROLLS ON BAN

    — TOO MANY TO COUNT ???

DO TRUMP/PUTIN/XI TROLLS HAVE MULTIPLE SHIFTS DUE TO TIME ZONE DIFFERENCES ???

  21. Vermin Supreme and Adam Kokesh are both definitely way more well known than Jacob Hornberger and Jo Jorgensen (Jorgensen is an answer to a trivia question even a lot of LP members could not have answered a couple of years ago).

Vermin Supreme has been running for office for years, and has gotten publicity and built up a following from it.

Adam Kokesh has over 71 million views on his YouTube channel, and he has millions more views on other people’s YouTube channels and other video platforms. More people have read Adam Kokesh’s book, FREEDOM, than have read anything written by Jacob Hornberger, or all of the other candidates for the nomination combined for that matter.

While working as a petition signature gatherer for many years, out of all of the candidates running for the LP’s presidential nomination, the only names a member of the public have ever brought up to me in conversation were Vermin Supreme, and Adam Kokesh, but the name Vermin Supreme was NOT brought up in context of him being a libertarian, but rather for him being a joke candidate who wears a boot on his head. The name Adam Kokesh was brought up (without me bringing it up) in the context of him being a libertarian, and in a few of those cases, he was the person who inspired the person who brought up his name to become a libertarian. Now I am not saying that either Vermin Supreme or Adam Kokesh are household names, or that either of their names came up a lot, I am just saying that I have had random people bring up their names, but NEVER the names of anyone else seeking the LP’s nomination right now.

I specifically had a few people bring up Adam Kokesh while petitioning for the LP in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Arkansas, and North Dakota.

Vermin Supreme actually came up when I was working petitions that were not for the LP, but he was only referenced as a joke candidate who wears a boot on his head.

  22. I have no idea how many people read kokeshs book and neither do you since he gives it away. A copy given away does not mean it’s read. YouTube views may be from bots, or foreign countries, or underage kids, nonvoters etc etc. It could also be a lot of views from the same people. I doubt kokesh is all that well known. Even supposing he is, that doesn’t mean he is likely to get the nomination. Most state convention and online straw polls indicate he will not. But it’s not impossible; it’s less unlikely than vermin supreme getting nominated at any rate.

I don’t see a candidate running on the platform of dissolving the federal government being taken as any less of a joke than a guy with a boot on his head by any significant percentage of the public even if he gets the nomination. Good luck with that one if that’s your candidate.

  23. Andy only likes kokesh so much because he says he wants to reach out to white nationalists and the alt right, even though kokesh himself is Jewish.

  24. Yes, Adam Kokesh has given away a lot of copies of his books, but he also sold a lot of copies of his book, and a lot of people also downloaded his book off the web, or they listened to the audio book version of it off the web.

Regardless of how they got his book, the fact remains that more people have read it than have read anything from the rest of the candidates combined.

  25. It’s not a fact. You have no evidence how many people have read it. But even if you were correct that still doesn’t get him any closer to the nomination since it’s delegates he has to win over, not anyone else, to get it, and what little evidence there is shows he is not having much luck with that.

He’s not that far behind, so it’s possible he could be the nominee. But if he is, it won’t be a good year for the party since dissolving the federal government will be seen as a bad joke, s terrible idea and or impossible by just about everyone. It doesn’t matter much though since it’s shaping up to be a really bad year for the party regardless of who they nominate.

  26. I have not said that Adam Kokesh is going to win the LP nomination. I think he is still one of the top contenders for it, but it does appear that Jacob Hornberger is now the frontrunner, but I think thenominations is still up for grab, as in I do not think Hornberger’s apparent lead is solid to the point where he has it locked down. I think there is a good chance the nomination will take more than one ballot, and a lot can still happen between now and convention time.

I do think that Adam Kokesh is the best candidate in the race, and that he SHOULD BE the leading candidate right now. His lead should be big enough that it would take a major player like Ron Paul jumping in for him to not win the nomination. The fact that Hornberger appears to be in the lead now, even though he’s close to being unknown outside of the LP, and that anyone is even seriously considering any of the other no-namers or oddballs, is just further evidence that the Libertarian Party is a dysfunctional organization, filled with lots of people who know nothing about doing outreach, marketing, getting publicity, growing an organization, building a movement, winning elections, or doing anything else that it takes to be successful.

  27. I do agree that whoever wins the LP presidential nomination will get less votes than the 2016 ticket, not because they are worse candidates (they will almost certainly be better), but rather, because the electoral market conditions will likely be a lot less favorable than in 2016 for minor party and independent candidates.

  28. I should say, “will be likely to get less votes,” since we do not know what will happen between now and November, although things are not looking good do far.

  29. We all know who’s trolling this site. His name is cyberpig xaulie banali. He’s an immigrant from Siberia. He’s Jewish. He weighs 400 lbs. He runs IPR and bans everyone who doesn’t agree with him 100% on open borders.

You were invited to come troll IPR-X and instead you stick around here and bother people who actually want to talk about politics and ballot access. Despicable!

  30. Yeah, I figured it was him. If he is now is now posting as “David,” “Peter,” etc…, on this thread, what do you think his motivation is? Boredom, mental problems, or do you think he is getting paid to do it?

What is your angle here? Are you also getting paid, perhaps by a different agency or entity?

There is probably not much motivation to troll on IPR-X, because that site gets little traffic.

  31. I have trolled in the past for fun. I’ve never been paid. I suspect the cyberpig does it for the same reason. For me, it’s more performance art than anything else.

My associate Nathan Norman trolled IPR for the same reason. Though he also did it to promote IPR-X.

The IPR-X collective has now given up trolling. It is counterproductive to our goals. With IPR now basically dead, IPR-X has already won the war.

  32. I do not believe that all of the trolling stuff that has gone on is just fun and games. Some of it would require sophisticated surveillance equipment and skills to pull off, and/or access to groups who would have such equipment and skills. Also, there is an obvious agenda at play, which is to sabotage effective pro-liberty, anti-ruling establishment, activism.

  33. When you speak of a “collection” of people at IPR-X, isn’t that just you talking to yourself under dufferent fake names?

As for Independent Political Report, yeah, that site has really gone downhill, which is poetic justice.

  34. Nathan, you are the one trolling here, just like you did at IPR. As for me I just got my internet back on a few hours ago. It was knocked out early Saturday morning by the garbage truck along with the house phone. We finally got someone out to fix it today. I don’t run IPR; actually today was the first time I have been able to so much as visit it in almost a week. William Saturn currently posts almost all the articles, with David Doonan from the Green Party posting mos of the rest. dL does most of the comment moderation. Saturn, incidentally, is a big Trump fan and not even remotely for open borders.

You got no part of my name right. You are correct that I am an immigrant from Siberia and a naturalized citizen since 1986. I was technically a refugee when we came over in 1979-80 when I was 7 years old, although I don’t think we were nearly as deserving of that status as many people who were denied it and turned away, many to die. I’m not of the Jewish religion, but am about 80% Jewish ancestry along with many other nationalities making up the rest. The soviet government and antisemites like yourself count me as a Jew; Jewish law (matrilineal line) does not. My matrilineal line is Siberian native. I’m not sure why you think my Jewishness or non-Jewishness is relevant other than that you are actually an antisemite. 300 pounds is bad enough; there is no reason to exaggerate my weight, nor is it relevant.

No thanks to going on your troll site. And you are the one bothering people who actually talk about politics and ballot access, which is what I talk about and work in, unlike you. You talk about mainly me and your false allegations about me, your sexual perversions, people’s appearance, your base prejudices and other such garbage.

Also, to whoever above is claiming that Andy is Nathan Norman (“Egyptian god”), he is not. I’ve seen Nathan (aka Vernon, Ancient Aryan Astronaut, Lazarus Mudd, et tedious cetera) comment at times when Andy and I were both out working. Contrary to Nathan’s frequent lies about me being some of his racist characters, I have never posted as any of those.

Andy would know that some of those comments were posted when I had no internet access and I don’t know why he would think I would want to post comments that have cost me a lot of money, business deals, friends and health. He might also remember that I did not know about when he was first arrested in Arkansas – in fact no one among petitioners or in the LP did. I learned about it from one of the troll comments on IPR, quite possibly the same person as Nathan/Egyptian. But how would this person have known? Andy couldn’t have posted it himself since he was in jail. I couldn’t have followed him since I have no car and was about 200 miles away. Someone must have had access to a law enforcement database or tracking of some sort.

Perhaps Andy forgot what IP spoofing is or that I first told him about it and that it was going on in 2009. I would think he would realize that someone (or group) that could know when he was arrested and had not told anyone about it would know how to do that, but perhaps not. So much for any “proof” that I am any of the trolls he thinks I have posted as or anyone “outing me” as any of them since that was all based on IP addresses.

Andy’s insistence that I am Ed Ng is if anything more bizarre. “Under capitalism man exploits man, under communism it’s the other way around” was a common ironic/sarcastic reference to communist propaganda in the USSR, and perhaps in other communist countries like Vietnam. I’m not sure whether it originated as a sincere but failed attempt at communist sloganeering or as a parody of it. In any case I have heard it since I was a kid, and not because of some bumper sticker Andy claims was on Gary’s car, which I have long since forgotten about. I guess Andy thinks Gary had that sticker made for him and him alone and there were none others like it, and that despite it being a bumper sticker no one else ever saw it except him and me.

It’s too bad that Andy has gone off the deep end and is falling for a lot of racist/alt right propaganda and comingling his conspiracy theories with the actual racist/alt right troll, but they are not the same person. And neither of them is me. Beyond that I don’t know who or how many people are doing the trolling. Focusing on it only encourages it, which is why I don’t answer most of the idiotic back and forth about it between Andy, Nathan and his many personalities, and whoever else if they are not all Nathan. But here it is this once in case anyone actually cares, which I doubt.

    On a more substantive point:

“Kokesh reaches out to everyone, which is exactly what a candidate should do.”

No, it’s not. Reaching out specifically to the tiny and justly reviled group of white supremacists and alt right extremists rightly drives away a lot more people than it brings in, and paints the LP into a far right corner which unfortunately cuts it off from a much larger audience it could reach out to much more effectively if the LP and movement didn’t continuously bend over backwards, forwards and tie itself in knots trying to appeal to the right, and especially the bigoted far right.

I’ve been trying to explain this for decades and have run out of steam. It doesn’t really matter what I say. The L/libertarians will continue to cut nose off to spite face to accommodate the far right and Greens will keep getting captured by big government socialism. I’ll stay irrelevant and will keep getting accused by the same trolls of doing the trolling – apparently even when I can’t get online.

I’d tell them to go get a life but I don’t have much of one myself these days. Oh well, at least I’m back out in the boonies and can go work in the yard again, and now I have HBO go thanks to my sister and can binge watch HBO shows on my phone. More productive than these conversations and more entertaining. Keep accusing each other of being me, it’ll get you far.

  35. ANY separate troll website for ONLY trolls to rave at each other [esp TRUMP / PUTIN/ XI trolls] ??? —

esp about who is paying for troll posts and about minor party and independent Prez candidates ???

    BAN ALL TROLLS ON BAN.

    Save Democracy
    PR
    APPV
    TOTSOP

  36. “Yeah, I figured it was him.”

    You figured incorrectly.

“If he is now is now posting as “David,” “Peter,” etc…, on this thread, what do you think his motivation is? Boredom, mental problems, or do you think he is getting paid to do it?”

LOL. You are asking an actual troll what he “thinks” my motivation is for doing what I am not doing and he is. Way to go.

“What is your angle here? Are you also getting paid, perhaps by a different agency or entity?”

LOL again. Yeah, he’s going to give you a straight answer. Do you not realize how crazy and stupid you come off with that? I know you’re not stupid so try getting past your tunnel vision. What am I saying, you don’t know how.

“When you speak of a “collection” of people at IPR-X, isn’t that just you talking to yourself under dufferent fake names? ”

Duh. Why are you asking? It’s pretty obvious. You act like you are going to get straight answers from this troll. It claims it has given up trolling, yet it still trolls IPR now just like it is trolling here. I know you are not this dumb.

“I do not believe that all of the trolling stuff that has gone on is just fun and games.”

Me neither. But it is counterproductive to keep talking about that openly. It just makes you look crazy. And playing into it and acting like the troll has real answers for you is just dumb.

Speaking of which, this is a waste of time. I would have more fun and get more accomplished talking to a wall. Have fun discussing imaginary conspiracies about me with Nathan and his multiple personalities.

  37. “ANY separate troll website for ONLY trolls to rave at each other [esp TRUMP / PUTIN/ XI trolls] ??? —”

    Try IPR-X.

    “BAN ALL TROLLS ON BAN.”

Not necessarily a bad idea, but you ignore the fact that many people here consider you to also be a troll and/or nuts. And who has the time to police the comments all the time? It’s a lot of work for no pay, and there are too many other things to do.

  38. Notice how all the troll comments stopped once the cyberpig took off the mask and tried to be himself?

Just because you have no electricity doesn’t mean you don’t have a cell signal to post comments.

Funny how he tries to lay all the blame on Nathan Norman, when Nathan has spent most of this quarantine watching the History channel, reading non-fiction, and preparing a research project on President Millard Fillmore. I personally have been writing and recording songs. The rest of the IPR-X collective have families and real jobs to do.

IPR trolls itself. It doesn’t need us.

  39. You’re the cyberpig Nathan, not me. I have no control of when your troll comments stop and start. My electricity was not cut off, just internet and house phone. I don’t do web comments on my cell phone; letters too small, eyesight not good enough, fingers too fat. And the cell signal out here is not good enough for web browsing. It’s barely good enough for a voice call, if even that. I couldn’t watch hbo go when my wifi was off either. About the only thing I could do on the cell was text. You’re right about one thing though, IPR does not need you. Neither does BAN. Please go back to IPR X and talk to yourself or go to Milnes site and go play with him, in traffic if possible.

  40. As you know, cyberpig is the name Milnes gave to you. You claiming I am there cyberpig doesn’t make sense unless you’re accusing me of being you, which is a common tactic of your multiple personalities.

Are you claiming not to be WTF and all its incarnations even though Zed Jiggler outed you?

Are you claiming not to be Gina and V for Vagina even though Andy outed you?

Are you claiming not to be Vernon or are you going to continue to accuse me like all your trolls always do?

  41. I did not “out” Paul as “V for Vagina” or “Gina”, although I did suspect it was him. I did know tbat he was “Humongous Fungous” and “Matthew”, “Mark”, “Luke”, and “John” (he was obviously doing a gospel theme then) was him.

  42. Milnes can call me whatever he wants but you are the real cyberpig. I’m calling you that, I don’t care what Milnes calls who.

No one has “outed” me as anything. I did specifically say I am not and never was Vernon. I think that’s you, but maybe there’s more than one of you; who knows. I did also say what I said about IP spoofing. If you don’t know what that is you can look it up. I told Andy about it in 2009. Andy would know that I had no way to know when he was first arrested in Arkansas either directly or indirectly. Whoever did have the ability to know that would also know how to spoof IP addresses. Any alleged “proof” or “outing” based on IP addresses goes out the window once you understand what IP spoofing is and that it has been specifically used against me.

Any other speculation about who you think I am is based on even less than the IP spoofed crap, which would at least mislead someone who is either technically unsophisticated or not aware of the extent of what some of us have been subjected to. Andy, on the other hand, should be well aware of it, yet he still parrots this same stupidity.

Oh well, no one cares except you and him, so discuss among yourselves. I don’t care either, you can keep fantasizing about who you think I am, making up characters so as to claim they are me, etc. It’s boring and dumb, and you are just annoying people with this crap. So am I by engaging you about it, so I’m done.

  43. Andy, you know better than to think you “knew” any of that, or at least you should. But believe whatever you want. No one cares. You’re not doing yourself or anyone else any favors with this crap.
