U.S. District Court Expects to Deny Presidential Ballot Access Relief to Alaska Libertarian Party

On July 10, U.S. District Court Judge John W. Sedwick issued a one-page order, predicting that he will deny relief to the Alaska Libertarian Party for its presidential petition. His order says the party has not been petitioning in a few of Alaska’s population centers, and also that the party has not been postally mailing petition blanks to most party registrants. He said he is issuing the order now, before finally making up his mind, so that the party can be on notice and can be continuing to petition.

The Alaska Libertarian Party presidential petition is probably two-thirds finished, and is not due until August 5. It requires 3,212 signatures.

  1. This Alaska situation reminds me of the Georgia congressional petitioning cases in the past, where the court says you have to accomplish the impossible in order to have the standing to sue that it is impossible.

  2. Three more weeks and maybe 1500 more raw? I think they’re going to be fine, even with covid, which has not hit Alaska as hard as it has a lot of places.

  3. I am running for state Senate on a nominating petition
I was told this same advice, by the Lt
Governor himself. To present my petition by electronic means. Have people download it. Sign it. And send it back to me by any means they can. Really. Who is going to do that? Think about the time and cost and the expected return rate.

  4. I am doorknocking in my mask. 90% of the residents who answer the door want to sign my nominating petition
    Some wear masks
This week, some rude lady drove up ,to her home, and yelled at me for endangering my own health. I hope she reads this

  5. You are denying your citizens their constitutional right to choose who THEY want to be POTUS. It is not right and all you have to do is add her to the ballot. Libertarians have a right to vote for their candidate in this country without having to jump through hoops.

  6. So I am hearing conflicting reports. Are they got enough signatures or out of luck now?
