  1. JR Myers has his own political group and views his new party as being in the political center even though many would disagree with him due to his anti abortion views. Sam Tittle still views herself as being a member of the constitutional party. That may have helped make the difference. I thought they would go for Kanye West. Maybe AIP will…

  2. “JR Myers has his own political group… ” Yeah but I remember hearing about some former state affiliates of the CP thinking about joining the L&L Party. Plus the L&L already consists of the CP of Alaska and South Dakota. “views his new party as being in the political center even though many would disagree with him due to his anti abortion views.”I was more under the impression that JR Myers considers himself as a Constitutionalist and a pro-life libertarian. “Sam Tittle still views herself as being a member of the constitutional party.” We will see if Jim Clymer can reconcile with the CP of Virginia (which disaffiliated then was rejected when they re-affiliated) and New Mexico (which is still affiliated but nominated also Sam Tittle). “I thought they would go for Kanye West.” I don’t have personal contact with any of the delegates of the CP of Virginia. Was there someone who wanted to nominate Kanye West? Was there a delegate at the convention who voted to nominate him?

  3. Tempest in a tea pot, party with no ballot access and no money that used to be but is no longer affiliated with a national party that has a shrinking number of state affiliates nominating various different presidential candidates including in the few states where they are still on the ballot.

Neither the national party nor their supposed national candidate are doing a whole lot to get themselves on the ballot hardly anywhere either. So Blankenship maybe has 4 or 5 states, tittle and Myers may be 2 or 3 each, maybe maybe conye west will get some, maybe not, some yet tbd.

Blankenship has money but does not want to spend it. National party, state parties, tittle and Myers have barely a pot to piss in between them and are crossing streams trying to yank that pot from each other midstream.

Fair summation? Did I get anything wrong and if so what was it?

  4. @Popcorn,
Do you use predictit.org? I haven’t used it in a few years, but someone should make a prediction on how few votes Blankenbooney will get this year.

  5. If you download JR Myers interview on the program, Sorry For Rambling interview, he mentions that his party is different then that of the constitution party in that they represent the « constitution center » and do not want to have on hand a theocratic state as does the constitution party (his own words). He says this around the 4 min. mark.

I did not say anyone from the constitution parfy would vote for Kanye West. I was just hoping that would be the case. They could have had their own VP candidate to replace his current VP (even his VP had suggested that a another person could replace her). The VP could have highlighted the program of the party and Kanye could have spoken on some of the points that he had spoken about in the past such as abortion and free market. He is not a politician and is not versatile. He could leave the hard work to his experienced Vp and just do his show. He would still be credited between 2-6 % as suggested in some presidential polls. Star power can create wonders. If he was the nominee and got over 5 % the Constitution party would qualify for federal funding. Anyway it is not going to happen. They will keep their nominee, Don Blakenship.

  6. Thanks for the info. There is a slight chance that I would vote for Kanye West dependent on his healing. Now that you mention it there was an effort to reform the Constitution Party spearheaded by Randy Stufflebeam and Ricardo Davis. http://www.runrandyrun.com/index.php I don’t remember if JR Myers are a part of this reform effort but there was also a Facebook group where they talked about changing the platform of CP because of the theocratic perception.

  7. Where do the Presidential tickets running on Constitution Party ballot lines/columns/etc. stand on states and electoral votes eligible to receive? I’m curious about two thresholds — one is the 270 majority figure, of course, but the other figure is 134. As I’ve mentioned before (but not in a while), if you win 134 EC votes you can’t finish worse than a tie for third — and if the race goes to the House of Representatives, they can only consider the top three (though the text says they could choose to pick from only the top two — at least until there’s a deadlock and somebody suggests a compromise candidate).

  8. The CP ballot lines have different tickets in different states which complicates your math even more.

  9. That’s why I said “tickets”. I was hoping either Richard or somebody else would be keeping track and have done the math-to-date already.

Of course, the CP split doesn’t affect how many EC votes would be needed to have a majority or to guarantee a “medal” or top-three finish. The least unlikely thing that could do that would probably be for a court to decide in favor of the Mal-Apportionment Penalty argument (based on Section 2 of the 14th Amendment, which says states lose US House seats — and by implication from Article II, Section 1, Clause 2 the EC votes that go with those House seats — if they deny or abridge voting rights in elections for a number of top Federal or state officers).

  10. Nobody knows since some of the cp chapters have not yet said who they will put on the ballot. If anyone. And others are either waiting to hear back if the state says they have enough signatures or still working on it. So at best in September we’ll know. I think.
