Only five presidential candidates will be on the November ballot in Maine: the nominees of the Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, Green, and Alliance Parties.

At least there will be fewer itinerations of the ranked votes than if there more candidates. If Maine’s electoral votes prove to be decisive in this election, it might be best that the counting be over with as quickly as possible. If it takes too long, people could lose confidence in this method.

We’ve been through enough of these in Maine, with other federal races, and state primaries, to know that if the first ballot doesn’t clinch it it will take a few days to a week to resolve.
