No Independent Presidential Petitions Submitted in Hawaii

This year, independent presidential candidates in Hawaii need 4,347 signatures. The petition was due August 5. No one submitted such a petition.

The qualified parties in Hawaii are Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, Green, Constitution, Aloha Aina, and American Shopping. Parties have until September 4 to certify a presidential nominee.

  1. I think this is hard evidence that the COVID-19 situation warranted petitioning relief by the courts. I heard Hawaii really shut down travel and local movement. I don’t know if 1st Amendment petition rights were officially curtailed or not. One petitioner I know flew out there and never left the airport before he flew back. And I believe the result of that shutdown is the headline for this story.

  2. Aloha Aina party is seeking independence for Hawaii. However American Shopping party seems one where political parties competing in 2020 Presidential election can build alliances with. Perhaps those nominees/parties who did not get ballot access can see if that would be the case.

  3. I would be kind of interested to see what the Hawaiian nationalist vote looks like percentage-wise.
