  1. Andy-

From what I understand, all a candidate has to do to appear on the Guam ballot is be filed with the FEC as a presidential candidate, and then file to be listed on the ballot in Guam. It seems easy enough, but it serves very little purpose other than spreading name recognition. I could be wrong though.

  2. Guam is located in the Pacific Ocean. For political parties that want to be around for the long run, it could help spread name recognition to a US state in the Pacific-Hawaii where one can of course get ballot access. I think that is not a bad idea. Also laws can change and perhaps one day Guam would be a US state. So does not hurt to establish a presence there.

  3. Its actually quite likely that Guam will become a state once the long planned referendum finally rolls around. A poll done a couple years ago by the University of Guam shows that the residents of Guam overwhelmingly support statehood.

  4. While there are no electoral votes in Guam, the “beauty contest” election for President there does do several things:

    1. It gives some recognition to Guam and its desire for status change
    2. It provides the earliest US results anywhere because Guam is on the far side of the date line. Results are often available on line before any other US polling place closes.
    3. Until 2016, they have always voted for the eventual winner.

  5. There are several different movements on Guam for status change. Some do want statehood, but it seems unlikely given Guam’s small size. Others want to be a commonwealth, like Puerto Rico. Still others want independence, or associated statehood, like Micronesia.

Because of the military bases in Guam, there are quite a few military people there. Even in territorial elections, the Republicans there are often competitive.

See olde Victory at Sea show — 1944- USA retakes Guam after its Jap Empire invasion/occupation in Dec 1941 – American Citizens liberated.

  8. Any Japanese tourists / Chinese spies visit Guam ???

Any Guam tribal independence stuff as in Hawaii ???

MAJOR ICBM USA defense base now on Guam.

Thus — instant war stuff if N. Korea killers attack Guam with N. Korea nukes.

  9. @ Demo Rep:

There are LOADS of Japanese and Chinese tourists in Guam. One of the special attractions of Japanese tourists is the shooting ranges and galleries that they are not allowed to use in Japan. And, those Chinese tourists are from BOTH the mainland and Taiwan.

AND, the local Chamorros are a mix of natives and Filipinos brought in by the Spanish. They want to claim exclusive control of native “trust” lands.

And, even before North Korea started building its own bombs, Guam was well known to be a prime target of Soviet missiles, in the event of war.

  10. How much disputed turf/water after 6,000 plus years of old tribal / modern statist FORCE ???

Oldest *peace* border between regimes ??? In Middle East ???

  11. Guam isn’t has Republican as you think. Their delegate is a Democrat, as is the governor. Hillary Clinton easily won the straw poll four years ago. Guam is very family oriented though. It’s a very interesting place to visit.

Rota and Saipan also have Japanese guns and cannons still on the island

  12. Greater HI = Pacifica ???

Absorb N. Maris, Wake Is, Am Samoa and any other USA occupied areas ???

  13. Hawaii isn’t even culturally close to Guam, CNMI and American Samoa you dolt. Wake Island has no population other than researchers. Do some research instead of just posting moronic comments

  14. Attention trolls –

Lots of States have left/right culture gangs – a zillion light years apart —

Esp ANY State with an olde black ghetto city and white rural folks.

    Common economics — about ZERO.

  15. I went to college with a guy who was the nephew of the then-Governor of Guam. He was surprised when I recognized his lat name and asked if he was related.
