  1. Fun fact: Counting states where he’s a write-in option, Carroll hypothetically could win the electoral college with his ballot access, one of seven people this year (in 2016 it was 9).

  2. For the American Solidarity Party and write-ins, considering it was a pretty brand new party last time, they got a ton of write-in votes considering they had no exposure, and were the largest 3rd party behind the much more publicized McMullin, Stein, and Castle campaigns.

There were 699,366 votes from 40 states that were counted but not in the FEC’s official results for a candidate that had ballot access in at least one state. (About 112k of these at least are known to be Bernie Sanders.)

    McMullin – 221,786 in 23 states
    Stein – 27,620 in 3 states
    Castle – 16,465 in 17 states
Maturen (American Solidarity Party) – 5,612 in 12 states
    Hoefling (America’s Party) – 2,480 in 19 states
    Kotlikoff (Independent) – 2,141 in 21 states

All other candidates 400 or less. For example, Gloria La Riva had 275 write-in votes from 6 states and Rocky De La Fuente had 126 from 9 states.

  3. As best as I can figure out, the American Solidarity Party is largely composed of Catholic Democrats who have a conscience problem with abortion. Most of their publicity is in the Catholic press. IMO, they would have a huge potential if they were on the ballot in more states.

  4. BTW, does anyone know if Brian Carroll is related to the famous Carroll family of Maryland?
