New Hampshire Secretary of State Tallies All Presidential Write-ins and Reports Totals for Candidates with At Least Ten Write-ins

Unlike most states that have write-in space on presidential general election ballots, New Hampshire has no procedure for a write-in candidate to file a declaration of write-in candidacy. Instead, New Hampshire simply tallies all presidential write-ins. This year the Secretary of State’s website lists everyone who got at least ten write-ins for president. Although Howie Hawkins had the most, all the others who got at least 100 were not actual candidates, but were famous Democrats and Republicans, such as Michelle Obama and Mitt Romney.   3. Vermont did the same. Below is everyone with 8 or more. But I do have a bit of a question. There were 3 write-in votes for Donald Trump. Trump is recorded by Vermont with 112,704 votes. So did he receive 112,704 or 112,707 votes?

  4. I think Michigan’s write-in system is more sensible. They only tally the write-in votes for real candidates who registered with them in advance of the election. Same here in Connecticut. This year, Michigan had 5 registered write-in candidates plus 6 ballot-qualified candidates. Connecticut had 10 write-in candidates plus 4 ballot-qualified candidates.

  5. Got at least 10 reported by the towns. If the towns put you in a scatter count the state will never see the 10.

Vermont’s tallied write-ins include ridiculous entries like “Cheddar Stump”, “Wutang Clan”, and “Jesus Christ”, for Ronald Reagan who’s dead, and for Rosa Luxembourg who wasn’t born an American, plus a vote for a misspelled “Barock Obama” who isn’t eligible to be president again. That’s all clutter we don’t need to see.

    On the other hand, an exact breakdown of the number of New Hampshire votes for Brian Carroll, Brock Pierce, Albert Raley, Jade Simmons, and Sheila Tittle would have been beneficial even while they were less than 10 each. More valuable than seeing 14 votes for Andrew Cuomo who explicitly refused to run in 2020.

  7. The California Super-state is built around a stack of paper ballots under pure proportional representation, Ogle Method for rules, and we have stacks for international, national and Los Angeles County in the files as proof.

    We would love to provide a set of paper ballots to anyone, to have for validation and verification purposes.

    The web pages get updated as each new paper ballot, arrives by mail, marked at the convention or wherever.

    We’re building around the paper ballots cast as proof in Los Angeles County Mini-state where we are having to focus.

    All levels are meant to have compatible rules, plus a names are elected under pure proportional representation, and as each vote comes in the best rules/guidelines keep improving.

    Probably the votes on paper ballots for the rules is what we need and new people from competitive factions can learn and improve the rules/guidelines and recognition of the stack of paper ballots gives us one final set so everyone can synchronize.

    The two sets, California Mini-state and Los Angeles County, are different and we are trying to synchronize the two sets which are synchronized better than ever now.

    I will post the link to the Los Angeles County Mini-state guidelines here. The plan is to have only 55 Electors from California and Los Angeles County without having names duplicated and also while have at least 502 Electors in California, those over the 55 needed, being back-ups because getting notarized Electors is an extremely difficult goal.

  9. How can there be ANY PREZ write-ins since 12 Amdt Prez Electors are being elected — NOT a Prez directly ???

    14-2 Amdt still around – dormant/DEAD ???

  11. Fun Fact:

    In 1789 the New Hampshire Governor issued writs of election for the five electors. In New Hampshire this meant for voters to vote for five write-ins. These were widely scattered. Any election required a majority, and would have required a new trial. The legislature met, and to the opposition of many chose the electors, only securing passage after assuring recalcitrant legislators that it would never happen again.

    So instead of showing up as electors chosen by popular vote it is recorded as popular vote followed by legislative action.

  16. How is the Senate gerrymandered? Do you have any idea how the Senate even works and how their boundaries are drawn?
