New York Bill, Cutting Signatures for Independent Candidates for District Office for 2021 Only, Passes Legislature

On February 10, the New York State Senate passed A4686. It had already passed the Assembly. It cuts the number of signatures for independent candidates, and the nominees of unqualified parties, in half. It applies only to 2021 elections.

  1. Should be cut for all elections. The more I learn about NY ballot access law, the less I like.

  2. BTW, the NY State Constitution bans discrimination on account of creed or religion. I think that “creed” includes political identity. This would seem to make a case for more equitable treatment for smaller parties.

  3. EQUAL nomin pets for ALL INDIVIDUAL candidates —

much too difficult for MORON lawyers/ judges to understand.

  4. Andy, yes, but the primary petitions are much easier, especially for parties with small numbers of registered voters.
