Arkansas Legislator Changes Registration from Republican to Independent

On February 18, Arkansas State Senator Jim Hendren revealed that he has changed his registration from Republican to independent. He was first elected to the legislature in 2012, and he was re-elected last year to another four-year term. See this story. Thanks to Political Wire for the link.

  1. The State Senate independent petitions are 3% of the last gubernatorial vote inside that district. The average State Senate independent would need 892 signatures in 2022.

    In the past (starting in 1955) the Arkansas independent petition was 15% of the last gubernatorial vote, but that was struck down and then it was made 7%, and then that was struck down.
