How fast could the Patriot Party and People’s Party replace the Constitution and Green parties as the primary right and left wing third parties?
The Patriot Party, it seems to me, has a hard deadline of 2024. Either a Trump supporter becomes the Republican nominee and makes the Patriot Party irrelevant, or a non-Trump supporter becomes the Republican nominee and the Patriot Party has one shot to make noise and establish itself as the replacement for the Constitution Party. If they flop in 2024, Trump and the Patriot Party will have largely been forgotten about by 2028.
The People’s Party doesn’t have that hard deadline. They can spend a couple of cycles sapping what remains of the Green Party, if they need to. They could always move faster. They are certainly going to do some immediate damage to the Greens, given that they have added the Green New Deal to their platform and they can portray themselves as having momentum while the Greens have been stagnant for 16 years and counting.
IMO, the main function of this Patriot Party is to run pro-Trump candidates who cannot win the Republican nomination.
