Maine Government Files Brief in First Circuit in Defense of its Ban on Out-of-State Circulators for Initiatives

On April 12, attorneys for the Secretary of State of Maine filed this brief in We the People v Bellows, 21-1149. This is the case over the Maine ban on out-of-state circulators. The Maine law even requires circulators to be registered to vote in the town in which they are circulating the petition. The U.S. District Court had invalidated the restrictions.

  1. Out of staters should be tarred, feathered, and ridden across the state line on a spiked rail after a weekend in the pillory. In fact, all travel between states should be halted at least for five years while states study whether to resume it on a much more limited and controlled basis.

Walls should be built between states, and if visitors are allowed, they should be closely observed for the duration of their visit, and certainly not allowed to engage in commercial activities of any sort, much less politics. The latter really ought to be a death penalty offense, ideally.

The union should, it should go without saying, be completely dissolved, with each state becoming an entirely independent nation.

  2. How about NOOO travel between local precincts or even street blocks or even land parcels — each a local empire ???

    — for Stone Age / Mad Max movie folks like Damn Reaper ??? —

to take on the killers/enslavers in Russia / China / etc.

  3. The communists in certain states do indeed want to ban travel to other states because of the virus.

  4. I agree, never let a crisis go to waste. It’s not that we shouldn’t be doing it anyway, we should. It’s just that a pandemic is a great excuse to do what we should be doing with or without it.

  5. Demo Rep is scared of the past and scared of the future. I say the only thing to fear there is fear itself. The stone age or Mad Max would be an improvement over the planet-destroying suicidal insanity we are engaged in now. No travel between land parcels? Bring it on! But radical decentralization and separation of states is a good first step. We need to get rid of the federal government, stop out of staters from stealing our jobs and women, and make sure that our great-great-grandchildren will have the pure, unadulterated blood of Mainers running through their veins. The Massholes and New Hampsherites will not replace us!

  6. “…..to take on the killers/enslavers in Russia / China / etc.”

I bet we can do better than them, absolutely.

Thank you, my point exactly. And there’s no point in citing the federal constitution, we just need to dissolve the federal union and its constitution along with it.

  7. Just privatize the roads and put tolls on every highway. That will curtail a lot of needless travel.

  8. Good luck to landlocked States / or even street blocks

  9. Landlocked states just need to grow their own food like everyone else. Since there won’t be any trade outside state lines it wouldn’t matter whether or not they are landlocked.

  10. How come the 1861-1865 Confeds of ANY State traveled to defend the regime in another Confed State ???

    They were brainwashed ???

  11. I don’t understand your question. A war between groups of states long before anyone alive now was born is not relevant to what we should do going forward. Maine should be only for Mainers. If massholes want a piece of Maine, fine, cede them the southern quarter of the state. But the price of that is that there shall be a wall protecting the rest of our State that no one may pass. There ought be no door in that wall, no bridge or opening for anyone to pass through. Only sentries with guns, electrified barbed wire. And antiaircraft guns.

Any massholes found north of the wall shall be sent back south with a catapult. It’s time to build the wall. When Massachusetts sends us their massholes, they’re sending murderers, they’re sending rapists, and to tell you the truth, I don’t think any of them are good people.

  12. What is the smallest population *state* in the Damn Reaper universe ???

Does it have ANY government – legis / exec / judic ???

  13. As I told you, individual land parcels with no travel between them would be fine, thus, there’s no such thing as too small. Government would not be needed at that size, but becomes necessary above it.

  14. Very good luck to 1 person States/empires —

to be wiped out by a mini-gang of 2 plus folks from adjacent States [aka neighbors] ???

See olde regimes in world history — being wiped out by larger regimes — using FORCE.

    OLDEST nation-state border ???

  15. It depends on their defense system, not number of people. If any country with a larger number of people always conquered one with fewer, it would not take long before there was only one country in the world.

  16. Was that supposed to somehow relate to the preceding comment, or some other comments above? If so, how? If not, what’s the relevance or significance of that episode here?

  17. Nomad — A broken device that killed lots of folks

    — fine defense system in the Damn Reaper Universe.
