Socialist Workers Party Places Candidate for California Legislature on Ballot for Special Election

California holds a special election on June 29 to fill the vacancy in the Assembly, 18th district, in Alameda County. The ballot will list six Democrats, one Republican, and one Socialist Workers Party candidate, Joel Britton. However, due to unfair California laws, Britton’s ballot label will be “Party preference: none.”

  1. If 40 petitioners are registered as preferring a single party, the candidate should be able to have that party label appear on the ballot. This could be extended to permit multiple petitions allowing fusion. If a candidate has mixed support he should be an Independent.

  2. I don’t agree with the SWP’s platform; but, they have did a lot of fighting for easing ballot access through the decades.
