On September 17, a three-judge panel of a North Carolina Superior Court in Raleigh invalidated the state’s photo ID law for voters. Holmes v Moore, 18 CVS 15292. Here is the opinion. The vote was 2-1. The basis was that the law has a racially discriminatory effect. The law would have survived if it had included more forms of photo ID. Thanks to the Election Law Blog for the link.

My opinion, the only people who are against voter identification are the ones who want unfair elections including fraud. ID = citizenship.

I agree. If there are people without ID, then help them get ID if you want to make sure they vote.
Here in Oklahoma if you live somewhere without street names or numbered dwellings you can give a physical description of where you live instead of an address.
Something like “3 miles north of towm on Highway 81 then 1 mile west on the dirt road” is accepted by the Oklahoma Election Board.
If their are people with no id, they should be deported , thrown in prison for life and put on a chain gang, or executed.
You do not belong on the streets , roads and businesses of this, the greatest Nation in the world and in all of history, without proper state issued identification which can be properly checked by one of our brave Law Enforcement Officers at any time.
If you are out and about without positive identification, any officer or anyone else should assume you are an illegal alien invader or dangerous escaped convict, and treat you accordingly.

It was a party line vote. They reasoned backwards from the desired conclusion.
If anyone claims that some people don’t live in places that have addresses or don’t have ID for any number reason then they should help those people get an ID as part of their Voter Registration activities. I absolutely agree that if you don’t have ID then you should not vote.

A passport card (NOT a full passport) costs $30. IMO, the federal government ought to give them free to anyone who requests them for voting IDs.
Any law enforcement officer is fully justified in using deadly force against any miscreant who does not immediately present valid, current STATE ISSUED ID immediately upon being ordered to do so.
Voting should be held to a much higher standard. Poll taxes, literacy tests, property ownership requirements, and grandfather clauses, are a good start. So is once again limiting the franchise to White Christian Men over the age of 21. 21 = 7+7+7. 18 = 6+6+6.
I like the idea posed above that anyone who’s ancestors were not ALL eligible to vote in 1776 should not be eligible to vote in our Homeland NOW. There should also be a military service requirement as well. Yes, that means a lot fewer people would vote. But that’s a good thing.

For once , you are correct. Anyone not descended entirely from natural born US citizens at the time of the American Revolution should be stripped of voting and citizenship rights, and quite likely deported.
