Libertarians, Greens, Turn in Ohio Signatures

On May 1, the Ohio deadline this year for the independent candidate procedure, the Libertarian and Green Party candidates for Governor each submitted more than twice the required 5,000 signatures. Libertarian Bill Peirce turned in 13,400, and Green Bob Fitrakis turned in 10,900. The Green running for Secretary of State turned in 9,000. Under Ohio election laws, neither is permitted to have his party label on the ballot. Instead, Ohio will only print “other-party nominee” on the November ballot. The Libertarian lawsuit against Ohio’s procedures for new parties, argued in the 6th circuit in early September 2005, is still awaiting a decision.

Another independent candidate for Ohio Governor, Jim Lundeen, did not succeed in collecting the required 5,000 signatures.

  1. I read over the Canada election law, and it looked liked you need about 200 signatures to parmantly register your political party and have ballot access.

In Iraq it looks like you had to pay to fees and then submit about 500 signaturse to register your party.

  2. Were those signature/petitions approved , or not, and if so, were those petitions checked by someone of that party other than the person who circulated them before they were filed? This question comes up because I was advised by a person circulating a petition for putting it on the ballot related to sick leave being required by law and Kenny advised me that I had to print my name on the petition below my signature .There is no such law requiring this, and I could paper the government to death over such a ludicrous requirement?

  3. Ed,you mispelled permanently, are you the Ed who ran for 12th district. So, how did these fucking Canadians come up with another arbitrary number such as the 801098, or something like that , signatures , for a “person” to run for U. S.President, you tell me. It is all about what “dumb” lawyers have been, and are continuing to do for years! They “put up straw men” so that they have something to knock over the easy way. One thing they do is take your $350. filing fee and throw you out for alleged lack of jurisdiction and then do not give your money back. It is all some monumental “Texas Holdem” !
