Republican National Convention to be in Minnesota

The Republican Party’s national convention in 2008 will be in Minneapolis and St. Paul. The party announced this decision on September 27. Democrats haven’t chosen their city yet. This is only the 2nd time Minnesota will have hosted a major party presidential convention. See the June 1, 2006 Ballot Access News for a chart showing the locations and dates of post-Civil War major party national conventions.

Republican National Convention to be in Minnesota — 3 Comments

  1. I think they chose that place because its far from a hostile city that could produce large scale political demonstrations against the GOP convention.

  2. I was born in Minnesota around the Twin Cities. The GOP convention will probably meet opposition from the DFL ( Democratic Farmer-Laborer) Which is the Minnesota affliate of The Democratic Party. Forget about the GOP why can’t the Libertarian National Convention ever be held in Minneapolis.

  3. Probably because they are nuts and think that Minnesota, the land of Wimpy Republicans like Normal Coleman and Mark (not those Kennedys) Kennedy, will either treat them with tolerance or nobody will notice if they don’t. St. Paul is a non-entity city where nothing ever happens and the town rolls up and falls asleep after 5PM. I suppose the local crooks who campaigned to get this convention of international war criminals figure that “any attention is good.”
