This interesting article in the Queens Village Independent of February 4 analyzes how New York city Mayor Mike Bloomberg will run for re-election in November 2009. It seems unlikely he can be the nominee of any of the qualified parties, because of political differences between the leaders of the qualified parties and the Mayor. Thanks to Bill Van Allen for the link.
The article does not go into detail about how difficult it might be for the Mayor to obtain the nomination of the Independence Party. So, one is left wondering about that. In addition, I have to question why Mr. Bloomberg even wants a third term as mayor.
If Mayor Mike Bloomberg (I-NYC, NY) really wants to be reelected to a third term in office, he really should run as a Democrat, which would be the easiest way for him to win. Besides, New York City, like most of the major cities across the entire U.S.A., is heavily pro-Democratic in electoral nature, and its politics is hardly non-partisan. Albeit that recent polls have shown him beating any of his potential opponents (mainly Democrats) in the general election, it is very rare for anyone to be elected under a minor party banner or no party banner. Therefore, Mayor Mike, don’t take anything for granted unless you run as a Democrat and win its party’s nomination for your current post!
