Constitution Party Files Paperwork to be Listed on Alaska Voter Registration Forms

Alaska registration forms list not only the qualified parties, but also parties that have filed a request to be listed on the form so that they may possibly get enough registered members to become ballot-qualified.  The Constitution Party recently filed the paperwork to be listed on Alaska registration forms.

The only ballot-qualified parties in Alaska currently, besides the Democratic and Republican Parties, are the Libertarian and Alaskan Independence Parties.  Thanks to ThirdPartyDaily for this news.  Other unqualified parties now listed on the Alaska registration form are the Green, Veterans, and Republican Moderate Parties.  None of those last-named three parties seem to be active in Alaska anymore, and their registration numbers have been slowly declining for the last six years.

Constitution Party Files Paperwork to be Listed on Alaska Voter Registration Forms — 23 Comments

  1. Welcome to Your New Political Home, the Alaska Constitution Party!

We are your choice for a party vigorously dedicated to upholding the principles of constitutional law. We exist to uphold the Alaska and U.S.A. Constitutions. We hope to educate the public and to field and support local, state and national candidates and issues important to us. We are awaiting approval of our proposed bylaws from the U.S. Department of Justice and the Alaska Division of Elections. Once approved, we will become an official “Political Group” until we can secure enough registered voters (about 8,000) to enable us to earn the designation as a Political Party with automatic ballot status in Alaska.

Alaskan voters may register as Alaska Constitution Party (ACP) members, by downloading the Alaska voter registration form, checking “Other” box in #13 Political Affiliation and filling out the blank line exactly with “Alaska Constitution Party” as your voter registration choice, then mail or deliver completed form to the nearest election office.

P.S. The AIP has NEVER been an affiliate of the CP, and NONE of its current officers are CP members.

  2. No, however, they permitted us to place our Presidential nominees on their ballot in 2004 and 2008. In 2008 they also sent a delegation to our national convention, but the AlaskaIP never became an actual affilate party. It was always their stated desire to remain independent. At any rate, our Constitution Party supporters in Alaska decided that it was time for the CP to strike out on its own in that state and I would agree that they are probably correct.

  3. Competing against a party which basically shares the sames position on issues doesn’t make any sense at all. It does show how little political savvy some 3rd partisans actually have. Okay, the AIP doesn’t want to affiliate with the CP on the national level! So what? CPers in Alaska should still work within the AIP. Register AIP but still hold on to your “constitutionalist” doctrines. Hopefully in due time, the AIP will decide to affiliate. If not, is there a law (other than not being registered AIP) which says CPers cannot run in the AIP Primary and run for state offices? Could not CPers within the AIP influence the AIP state committee to nominate the CP presidential ticket each 4 years? Its the same old story I’ve seen time and time again. If you don’t cross your “t’s” or dot your “i’s” just the way we do, we ain’t gonna have anything to do with you. No wonder the Democrats and GOP continue to rule this nation.

  4. Alabama Independent – In general I would agree with you, however in Alaska much has transpired during this election cycle. The AIP Chair is hostile to the CP. I am not going to re-hash the details here. You may research on B.A.N. & IPR o get more details which were posted over the last three months. – In Freedom, J.R.

  5. To Alaska Contitution Party says: I do recall some items from past BAN posts and I know the Chair of the AIP would not answer my question of why they did not nominate the strong and well-financed GOP Primary runner-up as their candidate for Governor, instead of the guy who won their AIP Primary and from what I can tell did not even conduct a serious campaign. They just might have pulled an upset like Walter Hickel did several years ago on the AIP. I think this guy on the November 2nd ballot won something like 3,000 votes out of over 150,000 cast! What a way to build a party!

I still say you CPers should all re-register AIP and let the “democratic” process take place. It’s hard enough to get a third 3rd party established in a state, let alone a fourth. And look at what happened in California’s AIP. The CPers won most of the primary battles in June, did well in the General Election, and will eventually take control of the party there again.

  6. We are building a viable alternative in Alaska Now. We are Pioneering the future. We will uphold our legacy of liberty, without exception! I am sorry for those who do not reside here. We will continue to champion constitutional rule of law on ALL levels! We thank ALL who support Our cause. – J.R.

  7. We welcome all constitutional minded Greens. The L-RD has called upon us all to be stewards of HIS Creation! ALTERNATIVE ENERGY IN ALASKA ANYONE?

    PEACE OUT! – J.R.

Big Sam left Seattle in the year of ’92,
With George Pratt, his partner, and brother, Billy, too.
They crossed the Yukon River and found the bonanza gold.
Below that old white mountain just a little south-east of Nome.

Sam crossed the majestic mountains to the valleys far below.
He talked to his team of huskies as he mushed on through the snow.
With the northern lights a-running wild in the land of the midnight sun,
Yes, Sam McCord was a mighty man in the year of nineteen-one.

    Where the river is winding,
    Big nuggets they’re finding.
    North to Alaska,
They’re goin’ North, the rush is on.

George turned to Sam with his gold in his hand,
Said: “Sam you’re a-lookin’at a lonely, lonely man.
“I’d trade all the gold that’s buried in this land,
“For one small band of gold to place on sweet little Ginnie’s hand.

“‘Cos a man needs a woman to love him all the time.
“Remember, Sam, a true love is so hard to find.
“I’d build for my Ginnie, a honeymoon home.
“Below that old white mountain just a little south-east of Nome.”

  9. Alaska Constitution Party says. I am a “constitutional-minded” Populist. I support Social Security, Medicare, Health Care, and Public Aid to Education. I also oppose the United Nations, I oppose infringing on the 2nd Amendment and feel America must for security and economics sake must become “energy independent” within 25 years even if it takes a federal sponsored program to accomplish this. Will I be welcome to attend the Constitution National Convention in Nashville? I’d love to attend!

  10. Alabama Independent:

The members of a state delegation are selected by the state party. Making big deal about what you feel distinguishes you from your image of the Constitution Party probably won’t help you a lot with them (though I think that you are not as much an anamoly as far as the CP is concerned as you want to think you are). On the other hand, people in the other 49 states and DC won’t take any part in your selection. So if you want to be a delegate I would contact your state CP leadership…which I assume from your “handle” is Alabama.

If you want to attend as a non-participant observer, and pay whatever the registration fee is, nobody will really care what your beliefs are unless you are a some kind of security risk.

One way or the other you WILL have to provide your actual name if you want to attend. If your real name is Alabama Independent, and have ID, I suppose that will work.

As for Alaska, there is a lot more that happens on the inside than people who only observe and comment from the peanut gallery are aware. At any rate, while it was convenient for the AIP to put us on the ballot in 2004 and 2008, it is time for the Constitution Party to stand on its own in Alaska. Nobody expects the Green or Libertarian parties not to have their own state organization in that state. Why should it be different for the Constitution Party?

  11. Gary Odom, with you being an attorney and a seasoned political veteran I’d expect a little better from you.

First of all, I think you know who I am as we’ve exchanged emails occassionally from a select address list to which I was added some months ago. But I use the BAN posting moniker of “An Alabama Independent” because first of all this probably reflects my political philosophy better than anything. Additionally because of where I am employed, if my real name were learned by certain people where I work, who just might happen to monitor this website or whatever reason, I could be harrassed at work for my views. I don’t need this.

I think I’ve got enough “walking around sense” to know if I applied to attend the Constitution National Convention in Nashville either as a delegate from Alabama or an observer, I’d have to give my legal name. I didn’t “fall off the turnip truck last night.”

I also know I would have to contact the Alabama party officials to apply to be a delegate. But I’m not holding my breath because they don’t want a delegate who doesn’t cross his “t’s” and dot his “i’s” as the leadership demands. The only “security risk” I would be is that I might actually get some of the delegates to start thinking philosophically for themselves. And of course “we can’t have that” can we Gary?

I don’t know what your definition of an anomaly is, but yes I do favor Social Security, Medicare, Aid To Education, and Universal Health Care Insurance. I also am opposed to the United Nations, I oppose Abortion, I oppose the Federal Reserve System, and I also oppose any tampering with the 2nd Amendment. (There are other issues I take what you may consider “conflicting” views)

It baffles you (and others) that one can hold such positions doesn’t it? The reason is many of you have been brainwashed that one must be BOTH against Social Security and Abortion. Many of you have been brainwashed that one must be BOTH for the 2nd Amendment and for abolishing the Mimimum Wage.

But there is no contradiction at all. I am very content with these positions. It’s just based on common sense, and unless the CP develops a little more of this “common sense” with the Platform it puts out in 2012, your election results will not be much better than they were in 2008.

Wake up. This is 2010 – not 1810!

  12. I have thought long and hard about this and I keep coming back to Fusion & Proportional Representation. I think Fusion is an easier sell. So, this was sent out today to key Alaska legislators:

    Dear Senator/Representative,

I am writing as one of your constituents regarding election reform in the State of Alaska. I would like to propose a fusion election system, whereby candidates may simultaneously receive the endorsement of more than one political party. This is the type of system in place in New York. In such a scenario, a candidate may run on both the Republican and Libertarian tickets for example. All votes received on all party lines would then be credited to that candidate. This may be a way out of our current election morass. It is evident that substantive changes are needed. I look forward to your thoughts on this.

    Sincerely,

    J.R. Myers

  13. There used to be a JR who destroyed one of the Reform Party chapters. Egos can get in the way of a lot of things, including politics.

  14. Evening i just stumbled your blog from Google but got a wierd popup about cat hospitals which is obviously unrelated to your website. Is this your ads or do i have a spyware problem? Thanks.

  15. To Gary Odom,

So the National Constitution Party is doing the same thing in
Alaska as they did in California, viz., forming an additional
    party.

The Alaska Independence Party got the shaft from national also. They now have a voter registration drive in Alaska
for Alaska Constitution Party to take away registration from
    the AIP.

In California the National Constitution Party formed a Constitution Party of California, under the leadership of
Dr. Don Grundman and his mother Ida Grundmann with a registration of 163 electors. The American Independent
Party registration now stands at 413,032.

The American Independent Party has been a party in California
since 1967. All I see in the CP having lawsuit one after another suing the State Chairman of the AIP. They have lost
every legal issue so far. The next hearing will be on March
    11, 2011 in Fairfield, CA.

The CP has run it party members in the AIP primary to try to
take control, since they have been losing in court. It nightmare Chelene Nightingale for California Governor could
not get even 1.8 % of the vote. In Alpine County only one
person voted for her, so she was in last place there for
    Governor.

My advise to the Alaska Independence Party is in 2012 not give the Constitution Party ballot access. Look what the
leadership on the executive committee did to it presidential
choice in 2004 after the meeting in Tampa, viz., lock out.

Sincerely, Mark Seidenberg, Vice Chairman, American Independent Party. Since June 27, 2008 the AIP has been
affliated with the America’s Independent Party of Fenton,
Michigan. The Constitution Party is past history. Let’s
    move on.

  16. The situation in Alaska is NOT the situation in CA. Many members of the AIP here are tired of the corrupt behaviors of the AIP Chiar LC. We are organizing an ACP of our own volition. No one asked us to do this, or put us up to this. We are creating an ACP, because the AIP HAS FAILED US. We have NO DESIRE to take control of the AIP. We are building a new project here. We hope to appeal to many new constituents. Some will follow from the AIP. That is an individual choice. Consider it a mutual parting of the ways. I, for one, will not battle the AIP anymore. I have friends who choose to remain in the AIP. I prefer a more positive endeavor. As for CP ballot access on the AIP line in 2012, this is not going to happen, and is in fact one of the reasons we need to form an ACP. Indeed, I agree, let’s move on.

  17. To Alaska Constution Party Says: Tell us what is going on within the AIP there? I always thought they had a pretty good little group – though sometimes maybe too independent. I know they keep calling for an election to let the people of Alaska decide on (1) statehood, (2) commonwealth, or (3 independence. But aside from this, aren’t they a somewhat a doctrinally solid party?

  18. I am no longer with the AIP. Here’s the short version. It was not really a matter of doctrine. Rather, it was the failure of many in leadership to hold the Chair accountable. The Chair engaged in frequent secret meetings, and unsavory machinations, and issued many seemingly official pronouncements and endorsements, on her own without even so much as informing the other officers. I, for one, and several others as well, found that to be unacceptable. Since it was made clear that there would be no accountability, and no corrective action taken, and that there was indeed a great deal of hostility by the Chair towards the CP, we felt that our best option was to form a new and healthier entity, the ACP. That being said, we are looking to the future. We anticipate U.S. D.O.J. approval of our bylaws within the next two weeks. Then we anticipate recognition by the AK Div. of Elections as a political group. Then we will be listed on all Alaska voter registration forms, and we can begin the formal building of our membership with an initial goal of about 8,000 registered voters needed to obtain recognition as a political party with automatic ballot access. We intend on full participation in the 2012 elections. You can research more posts here and at IPR. Again, we wish to look forwards, not backwards. We are Honoring Our Legacy and Pioneering Our Future!

  19. There are two ways for political groups to become recognized political parties
with ballot access in Alaska. In 2010 parties must achieve at least 3% of the
vote for Governor, that is 7,686 out of 256,192 votes caste in the November 2010
election. So, once the Alaska Constitution Party is certified as a political
group, which should happen within the next two weeks, the Alaska Division of
Elections will include the ACP on Alaska Voter Registration Forms and will begin
to tally our membership each month. That means our immediate goal is to start
building up our membership to 7,686 and beyond. We will also need to organize
our inaugural statewide ACP convention in Spring 2011. We will need local party
contacts and willing candidates for local office throughout Alaska in 2011. I
look forward to working together to reach our goal looking toward the 2011 and
    2012 elections.

    In Freedom,

    J.R.Myers
    Acting Chairman
    Alaska Constitution Party
