Canadian Polls Suggest New Democratic Party May Place Second

Canada votes for Parliament on May 2. According to this story, early voting is substantially higher for this election than it was for Canada’s last parliamentary election. The story also says that the New Democratic Party is polling higher than the Liberal Party. Although the New Democratic Party has won control of certain provincial governments in the past, it is still considered to be a “third party”, behind the two major parties, the Liberals and the Conservatives. The New Democratic Party has never won as many seats in Parliament as either of the two major parties.

Canadian Polls Suggest New Democratic Party May Place Second — 6 Comments

  1. Cons-BQ a bit rightwing — by U.S.A. Standards

    Libs-NDP-Green — leftwing totally

    Will Canada SHATTER if the NDP wins X gerrymander/plurality districts ??? Solve for X.

    Rather amazing that the old left/right powers played the divide and conquer game — allowing more parties to get going — with now having the nation almost blowing up.

  2. I might offer a different placement of the parties by USA standards.

    Conservative => A bunch of liberals
    Liberal => OMG WTF SOCIALISTS!!!!11!!1!
    Greens/NDP => At this point most people’s heads explode due to there not being a word for “left of Karl Marx”.

    The Bloc Quebecois tend to be left wing on economics, but all they really care about is independence, so they don’t really fit on any sort of chart.

  3. The Quebec Block is not “a bit by rightwing.” They are probably even more left-wing than the NDP. Their leader is a former Communist.

    Maybe you’re referring to coalition options? There was an unofficial alliance between the Conservatives and the Bloquistes based on them both wanting to keep the federal government weak, that will never be made official though.

  4. #2- I would have to believe there really would be no other option for the Tories than to have an “accomodation” with BQ. I cannot see them in coalition with the Grits or the NDP. Since the SoCreds are long gone they have few coaltion choices IMO.

  5. Cons — majority of the gerrymander seats with about 40 percent of the votes = indirect MINORITY RULE.

    Divide and Conquer works most of the EVIL time.

    Will the laid back Canada top party hack MORONS in the opposition join forces and march in the streets for DEMOCRACY ??? aka MAJORITY RULE

    More later when Elections Canada does the official stats.
