Unsubstantiated Rumor Says Jon Huntsman Will Seek Americans Elect Presidential Nomination

According to a source within Americans Elect, Jon Huntsman will seek the Americans Elect presidential nomination, and Evan Bayh is willing to be his running mate. Huntsman was Governor of Utah 2004-2008. Bayh was Indiana Governor 1988-1996, and U.S. Senator 1998-2010. Huntsman and Bayh have not told Americans Elect leaders that they will seek the nomination.

Because Huntsman is a Republican and Bayh is a Democrat, the proposed ticket is deemed “balanced” by the Americans Elect bylaws. If Huntsman wins the on-line Americans Elect presidential primary, and Bayh becomes his running mate, the Americans Elect board would have no ability to contradict the results of the on-line primary. Of course, Huntsman and Bayh are the type of candidates whom the founders of Americans Elect would wish to see nominated in any event.

  1. Huntsman/Bayh or vice versa would be a phenomenal ticket. I would support it strongly.

  2. Huntsman was the GOP I would have considered. He has excellent experience as a business man, in state governance and in international diplomacy. The icing on the cake is that he is NOT a Washington insider. I hope he does run as a third candidate with Americans Elect.

  3. Looks like a repeat of the stuff during the fall of the Roman Republic — see the triumvirate machinations.

Divide and Conquer — worked for the EVIL Roman monsters, will work again in 2012.

  4. Well this bodes well for the country. I backed him during his campaign and I believe it would be a good thing to mix things up a bit for this years election. Huntsman was right when he said that the GOP Don’t put forward bold ideas anymore. I believe some of Reagan rubbed off him during his time as a White House aide. Huntsman deserves a look by everyone voting. He’s like an episode of your favorite tv show …. It’s hard to put his ideas down!

  5. The ONLY idea since 1929 (or 1776 or Stone Age) —

MORE or LESS govt — i.e. more or less taxes/borrowing for various leftwing/rightwing statist spending schemes.

Govt debts now about 18 TRILLION plus — with trillions more coming in future UN-funded liabilities.

  7. Our last three presidents were foreign policy amateurs when they took office and it cost the country dearly. Huntsman is a pro!

  8. The current rules require that each one gets 10,000 support clicks on the AE website, and that’s 1000 from each of 10 different states. This has to be done before the first round of voting in May. So they had better get going.

  9. #11, good point. Americans Elect has revised its bylaws once already to reduce the number of clicks, so I guess they are free to revise the bylaws again and lower the requirements again.

  10. This rumor would probably be a lot more significant if it came from a source close to Huntsman (and/or Bayh), as opposed to an anonymous AE source.

  11. If the nation wanted either of these individuals, i.e. Huntsman, he wouldn’t have dropped out of the primary. His support was far too low, and he shot himself in the foot.

Bayh announced his retirement 24 hours prior to the deadline for filing candidacy papers. Real classy, huh?

Do either of these gentlemen actually look like a “leader” to you?

So they weren’t supported by their respective parties, so they go off and have a tantrum and want their own parties?

    Really?

So we will have the republicans, the democrats, and the temper tantrum whiners, right?

    Comonnnnnnnnnnnnnn. . . . . .

  12. Huntsman has the Wall Street Journal-endorsed tax plan, a great record as Governor, business experience, an ability to win the growing swing vote and important international affairs strengths. He’d make a better and more inspiring President than Romney. His rational views are consistent with the platform of Americans Elect. Hope he runs!

  13. This only makes sense as vote-shaving directed against the disastrous BHO. Most likely the dictator of NYC and Huntsman’s worried Chinese friends are the prime movers. Huntsman is a generic establishment liberal (who speaks Mandarin)while Romney at least makes rhetorical gestures towards what passes for Tradition in the USA. Romney should pick the absurdly overqualified (by 21st Century standards) Kris Kobach for VPOTUS to make himself more convincing.

Arguably better for BHO to be re-elected. Maybe it would be best for the wretchedly inept American Empire to be put out of its misery as quickly as possible before it does much more damage.

  14. Huntsman has an educational history similar to Sarah Palin’s. Wikipedia says: “Huntsman attended Highland High School in Salt Lake City but dropped out before graduating to pursue his passion as a keyboard player in the rock band Wizard.[9][10] Huntsman later obtained a G.E.D. and enrolled at the University of Utah, where he became, like his father, a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Huntsman served as a Mormon missionary in Taiwan for two years. He then transferred to the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a bachelor’s degree in international politics in 1987.”

  15. Doesn’t get much better than that these two. Spent the evening with an economist from the CATO Institute. His prediction for the new future is chilling. If these guys don’t run and or don’t win, God help everyone of us.
